VC should be neutralized until the bunch has passed then carry on with their own race, as is the case where Open groups catch lic ladies. Open riders are not allowed to interfere with Lic, same should apply for Lic riders not interfering with Open.

yup, if you catch up as a group, you should pass not hang about. The slow group should not interfere with the faster groups race and not hang onto them at a faster pace once they pass.

Reality is a different animal, and if there are no commissaires or marshals riding with, it does not get enforced, sadly...

I reckon every man for himself, the oke's should ride till blood comes pouring out of their eyeballs and then the winner will be the one who blows last.

But do these race referees speak up to achieve this neutralized section, or do the riders decide among themselves?

There's usually one rider in the group that doesn't want the faster group to pass, he latches on or picks up the pace and everyone else follows.

Catching a lic bunch has only happened once to me and i lived to regret it. Riding the Edenvale race in BL we caught the ladies and had just passed them when someone in our bunch made a comment about "boep pens ooms" beating the ladies. That somewhat irritated them and the next moment they accelerated leaving us to eat their dust.

And that is where the trouble starts. A year or two ago this happened and the comm asked me as marshal to tell the "being passed" group to back off. Oddly the ones at the front were the ones who heard the request despite my giving the request / instruction from behind. Due to the (deliberately) "deaf" majority ignoring me and the comm, the whole lot eventually got DQ'd due to the reckless endangerment of themselves, the comms, the marshals and all other road users (nb, my motorbike got damaged due to me having to "bundu bash" in the grass verge on a sports bike). The fuss kicked up by these riders, even here on thehubsa, was a good example of why many non-cyclists hate cyclists. End of the day there needs to be more consistency of enforcing this rule by CSA, CGC and all comms as letting it be is dangerous if there is not full road closure as the group gets too big and ego's demand taking high risks no matter how far from the podium you are going to be.

If BL catches VB..... test the whole group for drugs

Agree with this have been in bunches where we catch the ladies, but catching the leading VB bunch is a different matter.

I am starting VB in the Argus, You(OP) in B? should I be waiting for you to pass?

I agree with Paulst12......the chances of BL catching VB are very slim. They might pick up the riders from VB that got shelved but not the main bunch. I race in VA and we often catch the juniors when they start 5 min ahead of us. There have been times when there was chaos but last Sunday at R4S we passed them with no problems. I personally don't have a problem if we pick up riders that got dropped, they can hang on if they like but as long as they go sit at the back and NOT interfere with the race.

Hahaha

I think you were with me at the Kremetart two/three years back when the ladies and their circus caught our bunch of over 40s then sat in and amongst us and drank tea for 10kms.

I got alongside the front of them and pointed out they were being beaten by a old fat man, which raised a mixture of smirks and eyes-forward fixed frowns.

Then a slope appeared & they took off like Road Runner to our Wylie Coyotes.
