Has Ben Franks been cited for his swinging arm? Can't find anything.

I was wondering about that myself. I thought it was red card based on the TMO replay. My own biased, Bok-supporting opinion, of course.

The most disappointing thing about today's game was the "Uitenhage All Blacks supporters club" ... there is no place for that in this country

Why? We stay in a democracy, people can support whatever team they like, it's not against the law.

Because they weren't good enough then to have a team during those times. Not skewed results.

I am not going to argue with you about this, reading, and reading and understanding history, is obviously not your strongest point.

I did.

Well, their primary motivation is political and goes back to the pre democracy trend of supporting the all-blacks. Their time could be much better spent if they were actively and continuously promoting transformation at grass roots level instead of jumping up and down in a rugby stadium...anyway..i have said all i need to..this ship has sailed

You are showing skewed results. You are reflecting results from even before Northern Transvaal/Blue Bulls existed.

Northern Transvaal were only established in 1938.

Not all of them Stretch. I like the way they play the game, always been fascinated by the Haka so my motivation is not political. The other reason is that there are no wp or bulls players in the AB team :).

but thats what i said a few posts back....in response to meevo...if your motives for supporting a team other than your birth country or one that you adopt are not for political reasons, i will not paint you in that brush...but i still will not necessarily agree with you

and that is democracy in action IMO. We can both have different views and be allowed to have those views without fear of persecution. To my mind, and this is where we are different, if others want to support the AB for political reasons so be it, they are also allowed that in a democracy.

I pick my team based on the colour of the kit. Just so happens black goes with anything from my board shorts to my jeans..........

patriotism and democracy are two different things, but intricately connected. In fact there is lots of literature around that is both for and against the idea that a successful democracy needs patriotism. I am personally a strong believer in this, and you are welcome to argue otherwise. I read a book about this a few years back and I cant for the life of me remember what it was, but it follows the sentiment that patriotism provides a unifying common goal for people, giving them a common symbol etc etc. A quick google search gives a quote that provides a similar viewpoint.

"In short, the reason why we need patriotism as well as cosmopolitanism is that modern democratic states are extremely exigent common enterprises in self-rule. They require a great deal of their members, demanding much greater solidarity towards compatriots than towards humanity in general. We cannot make a success of these enterprises without strong common identification. And considering the alternatives to democracy in our world, it is not in the interest of humanity that we fail in these enterprises."

Disclaimer: I am a bit of socialist capitalist..which may explain it
