yep. Did it a few years ago from Gap to l'Alpe d'Huez via Col d'Izoard, Col du Lauturet. If you can do it, I recommend it, though it is a long and hard day in the saddle. Difficult to train for in ZA as most people don't have big hills on their doorsteps that they can train on each weekend - welcome to the world of hill repeats.

On my bucket list! I want to spend three weeks in the Alps and Pyrenees (spelling) and ride all the climbs they do in the Giro and TDF.

I did one in the early 2000's and it was AWESOME! Aimes to Cluses was my stage/etap. Tough of course as they always do the hilly roiutes but the experience is fantastic.

Mine was all cow bells, french people yelling ALLEZ ALLEZ ALLEZ, feeding stations on top of every col, scenery that blows your mind, atmosphere that blows whats left of your mind, wall to wall spectators in all the little towns (some were 3 or 4 people deep - for a "fun ride"!!!), met some of the pro riders that didn't make the Tour squads, everyone on the road was super friendly, total road closure all the way, the EXACT route the pros ride. There are not enough pleasantries to adequately describe the etap experience.

Man I need to go back and do another one - just the thought has my legs pedalling circles under my office table

Do it. Now.

Now THIS has caught my attention!! Why does this seem so much more appealing than doing the Epic?

I am injured (and broke) at the moment, but this might be a project for 2013.

Eldron, can you actually get enough hill training for this in South Africa?
