Gents, after 2 years of riding with a RP23 on my Tracer, I'm thinking of upgrading to one of these oukies. Is it a worthwhile investment or a waste of money? Over to you.

u do more XC than AM banna? that monarch plus is meant more for AM/longer travel applications. it's essentially one step down from the full on vivid air.

but if i ever get to make Wes naar by getting the Meta AM, i'm going for that monarch plus.

Ha ha! Nah, I got a Zula 6 months ago for xc, so the Tracer, I'm gradually building up as the AM beast it's supposed to be.

I would stay with fox...

Ag you know, I don't have any specific preferences when it comes to Fox vs RS. I've had some good and bad experiences with both over the past 10 years or so. The Monarch Plus actually gets better reviews than the Fox DHX air. The DHX is apparently very difficult to dial in 100%, so I'm leaning towards RS on this one. But ja, still not convinced that I actually need the bigger can.

Kraai jy nog happy met jou Monarch?

Baie.

I would have to check.

Use to be a big fox fan, till i got my new toy with a custom valved monarch, Not as "plush" as the Fox, but man it tracks so much better.

On the HD...

Original Build: Lyrik Solo Air DH with stock RP23

Didn't want the coil or DHX with the frame so RP23 it was. Shock is good, but a little too pedal bias and I was getting into bigger stuff. For that the RP23 couldn't keep up. Paarl's AM run would see it overheat with serious loss in performance after the second / third run.

First Upgrade: Lyrik Solo Air DH with Monarch Plus RC3

Not a subtle upgrade in any way. Improvement in traction and performance was immediately noticeable. The Monarch is A LOT easier to set up than the DHX. Pedaling suffered a little, but not enough to call it "Bob" and not something a good pedal stroke couldn't sort. When doing aggressive trail / AM rides the improvement was even more obvious.

Second Upgrade: Revelation WC 20mm with original stock RP23

Realized the HD in it's "big build" was a little too much for what I do 80% of the time so I decided to go with lighter fork to make it easier for all day rides. To be honest the Rev can probably cope with 80% of stuff the Lyrik can. Don't have the hydro lock out as I don't use lock out and swapped the 15mm lowers for 20mm lowers as they are quite a bit stiffer for not much weight sacrifice.

For the really gnarly rides I do miss the Lyrik though.

Change in geo actually suits me. Makes the handling a little "snappier" and closer to what I like in a bike. Bought Burgtec offset shock hardware but cant use it on the HD due to clearance issues. Would be nice to have a lower BB and longer wheelbase...

Swap Around: Revelation WC 20mm with Monarch Plus RC3

This too is a cool combo. The Monarch is an absolute brilliant shock with much better small bump performance than the RP23

Coolios. Thx vir die feedback.
