But the Argus is 15kays longer than the Cycle Challenge, so they can't exactly be very closely compared. Must admit I was surprised how many rollers there are in Jozi that they crammed into the Challenge route! Hardly any transition stretches at all.

That's exactly what makes it possible to compare them. The 94.7, is shorter, but much tougher.

I also found the 94.7 very tough. the altitude and constant rollers made it tougher. Once a gap was made you could chase for miles at 20sec and never catch

Back to the topic: I have always struggled with the 94.7. It is a tough race with all those climbs with no real chance of recovery. Suppose my weight counts against me. My best for the 94.7 was 2H45 and the Argus 3H01. Don't think it is so easy to draw conclusions on times as the weather down in CT is unpredictable, to say the least. I have found that the weather conditions for the times I did the 94.7 were farley much the same concerning wind etc

Based on my times across the two (have about 10 of each) I would say that if there is reasonable weather in the Cape, add about 10% to you 94.7 time to get an indication of your Argus time, given similar fitness levels. Having said that, my strenghts are probably more suited to the 94.7 as I like the rollers and don't like the wind that much.

Also I've only been cycling for 1 year now, after doing 3h59 for 94.7 (and really suffering) I gave up smoking 2 weeks later and havent smoked since (3months now). so I'm gonna gun for sub 4hours. I'm starting at 6h54 (K-Group)

i dont really care what time i do.... i just want to enjoy the vibe - i've heard its incredible, and way better than 94.7!!

Nothing wrong with the vibe on the 94.7 - people really get out to support and there's plenty of good stuff happening.

On the scenery front however, there's only one winner...

Good luck and I really mean this. But you're seeding is proof that the seeding system is not working properly. Edited by Blokman

I'll be doing my 1st argus - will attack from the start... :-)

Attack what?

Seems like most ppl on the other ahhgus thread will be attacking breakfast, brunch and lunch all in one ride. I hope those souvenir shifts have big pocketos.

Knorpantoffel, just a friendly heads up, assuming I am looking at the right person but I think I am because the 94.7 time matches to what you mentioned, Racetec still has you listed as starting in CC at 7:50. Did you perhaps get a reseed.

You might want to check that out to prevent being DQ'd.

The vibe is insane and unfortunately the Cycle Challenge doesn't come vaguely close to matching this..You will have a great time! Have an awesome ride!

I can't find last years full Argus results, my question is this, can anybody estimate what time the bunch (defined as the first bigish group) in HH will finish at?

I am in the GG charity group and would need a bunch to ride with, not sure if the charity group will provide. Hoping to finish in 4 hours, did Emperors in 3 h30 and Berge & Dale in 3h56.
