The Team 3GR race report:

Three generations of us finished together in about 5h30? (11 yr old, 13 yr old, 49 yr old and 73 yr old.) Rode together from start to finish without any issues except 1 puncture. Knew it was going to be hot, so packed lots of H2O as well as sandwitches for lunch. 11 yr old already talking about next year, 13 yr old full of himself and 73 year old think he'll keep riding until he can do it with great grand children. 49 yr old wondering for how long he can keep up with 13 year old. (I'm getting the little blighter a heavier bike for next year!)

Super ride! (And I met Catgirl along the way.)

TEAM DJR ROCKS!!!!

I wasn't able to do last year's Argus, and was just wandering what the difference in time's were, due to the bit of wind and heat... I'm trying to get a rough idea so I don't feel so grumpy about me time!! :) I'm hoping you were all 20min faster last year??? :)

Well this year there were 565 sub 3's.

Last year there were 958 sub 3's.

And in 2010, (quite windy) there were 133.

Well, last year was cycling heaven.

Comparing your performance from year-to-year is tricky - different overhead conditions, your own form, the nature of the bunch, a different seeding, age, etc.

Come on now... I don't want theorising! I need to hear everyone say 10min at least (and mean it!!) :whistling:

Bugger, bugger... that's probably a good indication that it's not 10 min! Curse you, Suikerbossie!! :)

My ride was ok till I got in a tangle onthe top of Boyes drive, U come down the short hill and all of a sudden everyone has stopped. The guy behind me hit me square on but did no damage.. well so i thought. :whistling:

The chain had come off and twisted badly and would not go onto the small ring and only the middle 2 on the back. Rode to Simons time water point hoping to get help but the queue was long so i went on and finally got help on the top of Scar hill. But waited almost 40 minutes there as well. Replaced the chain and I was off. ot thinking to check the indexing which was all out. Pulled away and as i got passsed the water point rememberded my glaases on the table but looking back at all the people would of been suicide to try go back so left them :o

Did a 5 41 in the end but ride time was just over 4 . not to bad seeing as up untill then I had only been riding 15ks to work thats it .

This year I must say was the worst traffic for some reason.

Well done to all those slow ones like me that did it.

3:50 Last year, 26 mins faster yesterday. However, I was hoping for 3:15 so about 10 mins slower than target :-(

Anybody want to speculate why so many fewer sub 3's? I see only a handful in group C made it and no one in D? Finished in 3:09:50, but felt like 4:30!

Heat & wind, duringd.

Surrounding accident scenes and near-accidents can also slow down the general race fever in the bunch.

2011 Argus was near perfect weather conditions with fewer incidents. This year was a bit more difficult to ride under the 3 hour barrier.

Ladies & Masters group also had a huge crash at the 99er.

I was involved in that crash and it was Ladies and Vets not Masters I'm not that old.

Sjoe!! Was hot yesterday. First Argus for me and the wifey without any seeding races and only 2 weeks training due to the midmar training (also first one this year). Started late in OC and remained with the wifey till 60km's where the marshalls were telling people to get on the busses as they wouldn't finish. Decided that I would go on alone from there as I felt strong enough. Up to that point we were averaging about 14 or so km/h.

Chappies was boiling hot with bodies all over the show on the way up. At the top it looked like a warzone with bicycles and buggered people in every shady spot available. I was lucky to get some ice and cold water at the bottom of Chappies which saved my day.

Made the mistake of drinking coke before suikerbossie which almost immediately set the legs into slight cramping every time I got out of the saddle. Nursed the leggies up suikerbossie and then hit the home straight. Finished in 6 hours with an average of 19km/h without walking anywhere.

Phoned the wifey a little later and was astonished to find that she kept on cycling from where I left her and she had just been stopped at the foot of Suikerbossie with 18km to go. Tough cookie that one.

Next year we'll train a bit more and do a sub 5.

Only gripes were the youngsters in the green jerseys that cut in front of everyone without looking and the too cool folks at Camps bay that were too scared that they would lose their social standing if they dared to encourage anyone. Every cafe was packed along the road but it was deathly quiet.
