We all know the reason, some cyclists ride like they own the road, truth is they probably drive their cars that way too. But taking measures which jeopardises the safety of all cyclists is not the way to address the problem.

We as cyclists should take issue with the guys that ride like idiots. (That is another thread in itself.)

Have to disagree, this is the only place in SA that this repeatedly happens, Its due to some cyclists behaviour that people are getting so seriously peeved off that they are willing to risk injuring people. They obviously do not want you "the cyclist" there and it has to be justifified to go to these insane measures.

The question should rather be what can be done to take on the cyclists that spoil it for everyone else.

Yeah ok i agree to agree,

Approach someone like pedalpower to get in touch with local guvment and the right authorities. Turn the shoulder into a bike lane, and get the cops to dish out some serious punishement to offenders that cross the lines.

Contacting bike clubs (from what i have seen on earlier threads about this) will prove useless as its the bike clubs that form massive peleton's and ride all over the road.

It is still ilegal to ride more than 2 abreast, so if someone / organization with enough authority and influence can get the local traffic chaps to start dishing out some pain maybe something will start happening.

That said if you look at how succesful authorities are with the taxi epedemic i doubt they will be very effective with this particular problem.

then its up to us, next time we see a fellow rider behaving like an idiot, give him a little talking to! Probably wont do much for rider relations, but hey it starts with you and me (the responsible riders)

Anyone know him?

Would be good to get stuck into this now, at the same time as all the other cycling safety initiatives going on. Would be great to get all the local cycling clubs on board too. (Idealistic I know - but its worth giving it a go).

I think I know his nic on another forum. Will PM him with a link to this forum.

Being a regular rider on that route I have to agree that cyclists tend to be their own worst enemies in the PR department. The worst culprits that I see are the two big clubs, and the racing groups in particular.

Having said that, yesterday I noticed that the cyclists were particularly considerate, keeping well to the side of the road (although the fact that most of them were on the verge fixing flats may have skewed the stats a bit!).

I was hassled by two rednecks in a silver doublecab on the descent near Glenburn, because I dared to ride ON the yellow line while passing a particularly bad patch of broken bottle. Started off with a hoot, and verbal abuse and obscene gestures from the passenger.

I'm beginning to wonder if there's a bipolar treatment facility somewhere in the Cradle. This isn't normal behavior, no matter what the cyclists may be guilty of doing.

Certain cyclists behave badly all over the country.

Certain motorists are irritable, arrogant plicks everywhere.

We certainly get our fair chare of both in Tzaneen.

What bothers me is the Cradle seems to have an overdose of both. You seldomly hear of incidents like these anywhere else.

In fact most everywhere else things seem to sort themselves out. We had a few angry motorists speak to our club chairman about riding abreast, it stopped, they smiled and life went on.

The Cradle seems to be harbouring serious issues!!!

Even though I may have my diffarances with CL I know they put in a lot of effort to get there riders to keep left, and spend huge amounts of time training Marshall's.

Andrew and I have had conversations with the above mentioned farmer and have had several meetings with him and Metro.

The fact is we are our own worst enemy, I still see groups riding threw red robots(my group on Sunday)and many riders riding all, over the rode, and these are expieranced riders.

Would not want to get involved with him again, and there's no proof it's him for sure
