Unfortunately you dont know. You cant compare rugby to cycling in SA and if you think the "goons" from rugby dont train and are on proper programs then again, you dont know.

Then why don't you just tell us

JacoFiets: I dont believe it would be right to put riders salaries on an open forum. If I knew what yours is, would you like it if I post it?

Actually I think we would all like to know. I earn +- R28,000 after deductions. So lets hear it, what do these guys earn? Doesn't have to be precise.

As a complete newbie, I was amazed at the dedication of these guys and at the speeds they ride at just about all the time. I don't care exactly what they earn, but whatever amount it is, they sure deserve it!

Im sure you would but again, I dont think KE or DG would like that splattered all over the hub.

Well done on your earnings but they earn more than you do p/m.

Had the privilege (or is at “suffer-lege”) to rode with Kevin and David about 3 weeks ago, showing them the Epic prologue route over Contermans, Kliprug and Hillcrest. I was two hours into a ride with my riding and trail building buddy on the Bottelary Hills trails when he got a call from Kevin (Kevin got his number via someone else) asking us if we can show them around the part of the prologue route over Contermans, Kliprug and Hillcrest. We agreed, but with another hour’s riding to get back to our car, we arrived at Contermans with 3 hours riding already in our legs. Being both in the grand masters category (combined age pushing 110 years), that was not very good preparation for a ride with contenders for the Epic crown.

Kevin and David told us to take it easy, as they just wanted to recce the route. The problem is however that if Kevin Evans rides in your slipstream, one’s ego is not going to allow one to “take it easy” - so off we went into a howling north-westerly wind, with me going at about 200% heart rate while Kevin and David cruise behind me. Never before had I rode up en down Contermans, Kliprug and Hillcrest pushing that hard and that fast. We managed to complete the ride, but I had no idea how long it took - at the end I was just looking for my lungs and legs and trying to get my eyes to focus. Took me about a week to recover from that ride.

So, in a few years time I will be sitting on the stoep of the old age home like Blokkies Joubert and tell everybody about the day that I stayed in front of Kevin Evans and David George all the way from Contermans to Hillcrest (and not mention that they did not have a choice, as they had no idea how the route went!)

But Kevin and David dont ride for a PC team, they ride and David owns a pvt mtb team and hence can call their own salary dependant on overall team budget. Also they are not Domestiques.

Just take a deep breathe and relax Moorewood, your knowledge on this particular subject is non existant so no need to attack me and call me a troll for no reason atall cause I will not put here what their salaries are monthly. You dont know who I am and what I do know on this little subject. You may know more than me on alot of other subjects and I dont go around attacking you so there is no need to get nasty towards me like you do to other forum members when they question you or let you know you are wrong or not up to date on a certain matter. No need to be narcistic facetious, its only a forum where people take up some of their time and talk about all things cycling.

Hope you have a good day further and learn to accept things you dont know and learn from them.

Cheers

Great experience for you and love the 200% part by taking it easy. If they win on SUnday they will have you to thank for it!

You're not in politics by any chance are you? If you go around in circles long enough you may just catch your own tail one day. If you want some credibility on thehub then you should either state your credentials or you should earn others' respect with posts that prove that you are knowledgable on the topic. All I got so far from you is that you've been on thehub for about 7 days and in 17 posts you've managed to talk out of your arse 16 times. Other members asked you what your credentials are and you simply sit behind your unknown age, gender and credentials and you say "I'm not telling". The members reply with "so why should we believe you?" So if you are not willing to provide your credentials you'd be better off by simply not making vague statements here. Hubbers are overly critical of comments and suspicious by nature. So if this offends you, then please don't let the door bump your arse on the way out.

Over perhaps a 10 year period. The rugby goons do 10% of the training these guys do and get 5 x as much... and I do know what the pro's earn. There is a difference between perks and salary...

That is an unfair statement.

At university we had the following training regime:

Monday to Thursday

4 x Two practice sessions of 60min each

4 x One kicking practice session 30min

4 x Gym and cardio 90min

Friday

Captains practice 60min

Saturday

Match time 80min

This add up to 18 hours a week and 72 hours a month. And this was just a "C" team at university level. And I did a 4 hour mountain bike ride on Sunday mornings as well.

Professional players do a lot more than the above in their training, I would estimate at least 80hours a month.

So it is a little more than 10%.
