horseytoo Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 If you get two teams hiring cars its a lot easier as the one team can park at the finish and the other team at the start and then just give a lift. Problem is the only person I know doing it is doing the Descent. The shuttle is R300 from the start to the finish of the Descent. It is run by the local NG Church.
horseytoo Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I am sure you can ask them. They are very accommodating
graham cube Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I did the very first 3 day event. We were unfit and not organised at all. We finished though. Had a blast. Food was great. We have entered the Great Trek this year. Told it is more relaxed. See how it goes
Beer4Recovery Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 OK. In how much "poepe" do you think I am with regards to training for Berg and Bush, with only 10 weeks left?My current status is as follows: Last long ride was 66km in Cullinan @ around 4hrs 20 minutes (Nissan Trailseeker)After that I only got in two short rides, 25km & one 8km ride - main reason it's too cold in the mornings and I don't ride in the dark. (I only get home @ 6pm). I find it very difficult to get myself to train in the winter months. I try to get most of my cycling in on weekends, Saturdays & Sundays @ Groenkloof and in the suburb near home. On these rides I manage to get about 30km in at Groenies and about 18-23km in the suburb (mostly flat), so that is only 55km on weekends and sometimes around 36km during the week. I would say that I am fairly fit, and do not struggle with these distances, but on the longer rides (mostly mtb races, at around 55km) my back starts to hurt and the punishment begins. Climbing tends to be a b**ch for me so I take it slow and steady on them. With only 10weeks left and the weather not being too forgiving at the moment, I hope to get some training in so that I don't kuk at Berg and Bush. HOW BAD AM I GOING TO SUFFER AT BERG AND BUSH? (any comments? suggestions?)

(any comments? suggestions?) 4h20 for Cullinan is a long ride so if you're at a similar level for B&B you will "poep" and you will "kuk" but B&B is one of the more forgiving races around so you should finish without too much trouble - you'll just be out there a long time each day. But 10 weeks is plenty of time to get some decent training in which will reduce your **** and give you more time to enjoy the very social side of B&B.

I was just scared that 10 weeks would not be enough. Thanks for the replies!
Ratty Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Ok. I need to do some more training then. I was just scared that 10 weeks would not be enough. Thanks for the replies! Some of the 50+- km mtb rides are harder than the 80km +- rides. Die Burger for instance was way tougher for me than day 1 and day 3 of Sani which are longer in distance. The climbing for each day of the Berg and Bush is less then Die Burger. If you are doing the Great Trek, I'll be one of the people riding at the back :-) I don't get to train during the week so am a true weekend warrior.
Twombles Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I have been injured for most of the year. So my training for the Berg and Bush has just started! Since I have been back on the bike, I am able to do a 70km road ride comfortably.. and did Breedts nek on saturday for the first time this year (only to the top and back). This week.. I am in bed with Flu. I am starting to get a bit worried, but 10 weeks should get me fit enough to finish (please tell me I am right) and hopefully to enjoy it whilst doing so!
Beer4Recovery Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 How does the logistics work for this event? Do we pack our kit in a container and then it get's shuttled to Emseni camp on the first day and dropped off at the finish on the last day? Any tips for packing or any other info from those who has done this event before? I read on another thread that newspapers work well for drying wet shoes etc.
Grease Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Been pondering the very same. My 1st Berg and Bush...following hot on the heels of my 1st Sani2C earlier this year!!! Hope the logistics are as smooth as experienced there. Any insights? Was thinking of having my vehicle shuttled to Emseni from the start and then dropping it off at the finish after Day 2's riding so that it is there for me once we've finished Day 3's thrills and spills. Perhaps the experienced campaigners could shed light as to wether there's any merit in my plan?
Google Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Hi guys Do any of the people that have done the decent in previous years have their gps mapping of it. especially looking for the profile. Thx
