Great trails! Good variety and more climbs than I would have thought...

They do need to be ridden in a bit so call your friends and get them there!

R40 may appear a bit dear at R1/km but Ricky and team have put in a huge amount of work - I felt it was good value. You really feel a million miles from Jhb.

I'll be back. Often. Porbably with a frequent user card (if they do them?).

As the course gets ridden in it'll get easier and faster - entertainment value will increase by the week:-)

Good to hear. I'll definitely give it a go later or tomorrow.

Was it easier to find than all the plaintive parking queries would indicate? If not, if anyone could pop a GPS point up for e.g. parking, booking, that'd be great.

Edit: as far as I can tell, this is the point: -26.09823, 28.16702 - just pop that into Google Maps and you should be good to go. (See the green arrow on the map.) I'll confirm when I go.

Edit: yup, here: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=-26.09823,28.16702

I also enjoyed the blue route this morning. A very nice selection of terrain, ups and downs. I only found the route markers a bit confusing especially when we were ready to go home. But a very nice overall experience, will be back!

Awesome route!

Well done to the route builders! Although there was one section that made my soft tail feel like a dam rigid bike!! Wow.

I will be back.... :)

I went down to check it out late morning on Saturday. You sign in at a gazebo in the car park by the sports pavillion then there's markings on the road to take you to the conservancy area gate. They had a mobile Seattle Coffee truck in the car park which was good. The organizers said theyd had +/-120 folk through for the morning, so a good start.

Didn't have enough time for a mountain bike ride this morning, so went and ran the green 18km loop with a friend - AWESOME!

I can't wait until it's open during the week too

Reading the above I presume there is a 18 & 35km loop?

Basically a green 18km loop, mostly jeep track with some single track. Every few hundred metres you will find a blue loop of singletrack which would join back onto the main green trail. It would double the distance if you did all the blue loops.

We spoke to one of the trail builders afterwards. They are going to fix up what they have and add new stuff every week - even some north shore alternatives through the forest section. That huge rock near the start has such potential for a little bit of technical... Such a nice gradual ascent on the one side with a steep drop down the otherside. Apparently it's all in the plan. :D

For the opening day, they admitted that quite a bit of the singletrack was underprepared, some sections were basically just cut grass and others were very soft and sandy. Not too much of a problem to ride and as more people ride the trails while it dries up through the winter, it should improve enormously. Would be interested to see how much firmer they are already after a couple of hundred this weekend. With additions of more technical stuff it will be on my calendar at least once a month.
