For our Alps trip I figured I needed more DH kits (as I only had 1 proper kit, and wear shorts and T-shirt most of the time).

I picked up 3 Acerbis jerseys at Full Throttle (Cresta) for R200 each. Decen't looking too

(example of one of them)

I then bought some Nema Gambler race pants from CRC for around R400 (landed and VAT)

and that made quite the nice cheap kit.

So for the 10 riding days (yes, it was supposed to be 13 but I broke myself)...

I mixed and matched kit... and on days 9 and 10 I had it down to just shorts and T-shirt again (mostly cos I ditched the elbow guards).

According to my teenage friend who is all knowing in these matters the following rules apply to riding apparel.

1. No mixing and Matching kit colours.

2. Shirts HAVE to be tucked in unless you are riding in a t-shirt

3. No mixing brands. A kit must be a complete kit.

4. King of cool is a button up check shirt with jeans. But then you have to be on flats and be able to whip like a MOFO. Oh kneepads under the jeans.

5. No neck braces and hydration packs. In fact hydration packs are to be avoided at all costs.

6. NO SUNGLASSES AND FULL FACE LIDS. Unless of course you are French.

I bought a Fox kit in Morzine for 190 Euro. I thought is was ridiculously expensive until i got back here and saw the moto version selling for R2850 on the FT website. Ouch!

haha! well... I broke some of those rules.

Mixed and matched colours, but most of my kits have black/white as mani colour so not noticable.

Never tucked in my jersey.

All my kit is different brands... so no matchy-matchy like a pretend-pro.

Didn't have my hipster clothes with me

Had to have small hydration pack with me to carry essentials

Did obey the sunglasses and fullface lid rule though. Very important one!

so I'm sorry to report, I only score 1/6 on the teenage cool scale!

But I did see plenty of other teenagers in DH longs with T-shirts/wife beaters/no-shirt. To me those looked like the "cool kids".

I also saw (from the Les Gets lift) 2 girls wearing DH shorts, bikini tops and full faces! That kit I approve of

Yeah I broke a few of those rules myself. The little feckers were happy to let me be the donkey with my pack on. I mostly rode in shorts and t shirts. I WANNA GO BAAAAAACKK!

The Brits ride in beaters. The lord alone knows why.

You shoulda had a "mechanical" at the top and waited to see what they look like without helmets on.
