amoryns Posted June 4, 2012 Share Ok so my question in regards of Cape Epic should you get a cheaper 2nd bike to do all your training on and spare your actual bike for the event or do you ride your actual bike for the Epic with every training session and repair every month? Danger Dassie Posted June 4, 2012 Share Train and maintain on the same bike, replace whatever needs to be done a month before then after schmepic, have the bike serviced.Don't think the costs will be any different as to having a second bike, probably less admin. Unless you buy exactly the same bike, maybe a slightly lower spec, then no. You need to get used to the bike, so maintain the same one, and apparently you're not supposed to change anything in the last month. But I know somebody who went out and bought a spez sworks the day before...
sometime Posted June 4, 2012 Share I do quite a bit of training (mainly my shorter week day rides ) on my old 26" HT running 1x9 gearing, v brakes, dirt cheap tyres etc etc. Given the cost of replacing a worn XT drivetrain and the cost of fast wearing Schwalbe tyres I believe I save a fair bit of wear and tear and therefore money running this bike. Having said that as others have posted it's important to do some training time on my race bike as the body position and setup is quite different. The fact that my 1x9 is heavier than my racebike is also good from a training perspective.

V12man Posted June 4, 2012 Share 2nd bike... no, not another bike, that would then be the 8th bike - I think I have enough already..... But the last couple of months will be pretty much exclusively on the bike I plan to ride for the CE - unless something breaks and the fix is in progress.
