Wiggins is a time-trialling machine this year.

hugely impressive.

Anquetil and indurain used to win their tours in the time-trials, so I guess no matter how much we bleat about how Froome is stronger etc, the fact is Wiggins wiped EVERYONE in the TTs.

Good work Twiggy. You did well, good tour. Not 'poetic' but hugely impressive team effort. No one is ever gifted a win in the monuments.

"Congratulations @bradwiggins. That's been an inspirational display of athleticism & ambition. You are one of the greats of cycling.

Another great TDF. Well done Wiggy and Sky. To those of you calling it boring then you need to make the trip to watch it live. Has never been boring to me. Just tomorrow left then back to SA after following tour around France. I'm absolutely buggered and fat, need another month just to recover. Had a ball though as always.

Make it a reality. Unbelievable. Problem is once it bites you its hard not to go every year. Luckily I'm in the financial position to not worry about a budget but it can easily be done on a limited budget. Lots of hostils on the routes or camps and trains go to most stages. U got to do this at least once in your life time.

If you don't mind sharing, how much do you more or less have to budget for a trip like that?

its myself and my fiance and we budgeted R1000 per day for entertainment, food and gifts etc and R700 per day on accomodation and R5000 for europcar The flghts were R16,000 so about R70,000 for 24 days. This is excluding the 10k i wanted to spend on deep sections which i couldnt find at any cycle shop in france. we very spoilt for choice in sa on cycling products. most cycle shops here sell crappy entry level stuff and charge alot for it so i guess crc will get a order from me when i get home next week. Getting back to TDF, if you slog it you can get away with probably 20k quite easily which includes airticket. Buying airtickets 8 months before and booking a motel/hotel saves alot of money as july is their annual holiday and booking a month or 2 before is wallet suicide.

Don't bother going. You'll only meets lots of pricks who can ride bikes really well. And probably embarrass the rest of us when people work out you are from around here.

Great result for Nibs and Liquigas!!

I agree, good result for him. I always felt he could podium, maybe not top step but definitely podium.

Liquigas have had a super tour, Three wins, a few Seconds, Third step on the podium, The Green Jersey by a mile and Most Aggressive rider on one stage as well.

Definitely can walk away with their heads held high.
