I haven't been there, no. If you've got most of my list covered, then I'll certainly be there.

Pm me your details and arrange a pre ride for you

Technical doesn't work for races because it ends in bottlenecks, broken collarbones and unhappy novice riders. Since there is a lot of them it is them who pay a large portion of the entry fee and attract the bigger sponsors. Van Gaalens has plenty technical. Race against your previous best time. Be sure to include the section called 'Broken Collarbone - Danger Very Technical' and 'Pofadder'.

Speaking only for myself, I like variety. Plain and simple.

Long gruelling ascents

Short Steep rocky ascents

Rock gardens

River crossings

Wet roots

Mud

Gravel

Sand

Technical descents

Technical descents with twists in 'em

Fast sweeping corners

Fast corners with berms

Fast off-camber corners

Tight switchbacks

Drop offs

Roll offs with nasty grooves

Logs to bunny hop

A tabletop jump or two

And some broken washing machines :)

..Huey gunships flying overhead to set the mood will be nice too.

Seriously though, bar the last two items (I got carried away), gimme 30 kilometres of non-stop interesting challenges and I'll be in MTB heaven.

Come ride kings kloof with us some weekend. Its super awesome!

Okay, well it doesn't have all the above, but quite a few.

Come to Bains MTB trails in Wellington, 29km of almost non-stop, uninterrupted singletrack, mostly flowing, it's amazing!

Vori-berg and redstone are pretty much the only races in gauteng, outside of the Nissan series, with any fun technical stuff. If you really want technical you need to head out to Sabie. Do the Mankele (best bike park in SA) avalanche. It will leave you begging for boring single track like babbas, well temporarily.

I've been planning to go there in the next few weeks. I've heard that King's Kloof is very good so I'll definitely make a plan.

Thanks for all the info, folks.

I have quite a list of events that I'll mark on my calendar.

It's a good motivator to work on my fitness through the winter.
