Even with the duties though it seems worth it. I look at the price of bib shorts and jerseys locally and I am seeing prices of around R600 for each item. At that online store you are looking at $53, so around R460, for a full set. So even with full duties and VAT I would be substantially better off. And that is without factoring in range and choice.

EDIT: My mistake, further online research reveals those team kits to be more in the R800 range each locally.

Here is a pic of how it was packed when i received the first kit.

See how they put the Value as $10 so you pay less on duties. (they being the Chinaman's)

I paid R78 for this so work it out -

I'll use them again

Total : 460+ 78 = R 538 thats f#kkol

I few of my mates got very unlucky. CRC send them a shipment bud it was divided in to 3 consignments. Each consignments had the same invoice so they payed 3x the TAX. I think it was a around R5000 order and ended paying something like R715 x 3 = R2145. Post office handling fee at that stage was R15 and they could not convince the post office that there where a mistake. At the end they had to pay the full amount.

This does happen, that's why I only order using DHL.

Can also happen when they send you a replacement part(s)... with DHL they can issue a non-commercial shipment, trying to explain something like that to the PostOffice is like woodwerking with kitchen utensils.

I know everyone always does the maths on the import, duties, vat and all that stuff and I'm sure that if you did get nailed for all that then you'd suffer.

I've been bringing in kit for myself and a couple of friends from the US, the UK and the Australia depending on the item, the offer and the shop because I couldn't stomach paying the rip off prices in South Africa.

In 2+ years I've never been charged a thing and most items have been opened and checked by customs (so the packing tape says!). Today I picked up my new Giordana Windtex winter jacket and Silverline shorts. New with tags which I got online for £29 & £32 respectively... here the std long sleeve jersey is R1150 and the shorts are R1100.

I'm looking for custom kit and will be looking to china. I would support local makers if they did short runs but it's a ball ache trying to get some one on side and then finding out they are producing overseas as it is.

Let me know what you find as I wouldn't also mind some custom stuff made

Will do, have a few names and will work my way through to see what's viable.

I've got stuff that comes from same factory used by first ascent for all their kit. PM me your email address and I'll put you onto someone who brings in a shed load of cycling stuff and will do custom kit.

Hey guys - I'm thinking about ordering from Cycling-jersey...

What size (in their sizes) should I go for if I am normally a Medium in the Giordana range?

1.78m / 32'' waist...
