I can't wait to see and ride this!

2013 Lefty Forks – Stiffer, Lighter, Stronger & More Durable

A new sealed Hybrid Bearing Design without the boot and a new external sealing system that’s completely sealed against the elements.

And still super still and extremely light....

Okay, look here... I really imagine that from a functional point of view it's awesome... but how practical will that exposed stanchion be?

Doesn't anyone worry about that being smashed and scratched like crazy?

Amazing evolution - the prototypes in Pmb had a guard on the front, which might be a good idea to keep the gunge out of that low seal and surface. Can't imagine how they made it lighter, the existing range weighs as much as a feather. When I got one in the post from ebay, I thought I had been ripped and the box was empty (it wasnt).

Looks silly without the "boot" on it... Doesn't mean I'd say no to taking that bike for a test ride though!

Can leftys take all the punch that the standard forks survive?

How do they cope with super hard braking?

Don't they twist?

Yes, no problem, but need a bit more regular maintenance and TLC (the existing range)

As good as any other fork

Nope, the shaft has 4 x flat faces on which needle bearings run, and these go into a matching flat faces inside the upper piece

Why then do noone in the downhill corner use them?

Because they don't weigh enough for downhillers.

I like Lefties so I sincerely hope this is an improvement.

Durability is of course only proven with time. We'll see.

I hope they've softed out that horrible headset arrangement and replaced it with a normal angular contact bearing ala Aheadset style.

I'd be worried about the exposed lower stanchion. It is really at the mercy of the elements down there.

I wonder why it took them so long to design one without a breather system.

I wonder what the "hybrid bearing system" really is. Is it functional and better? Yes? No?

In action: Marco Aurelio Fontana (Ita) at Windham this weekend - you can see the guard over that lower.

It's a pity we won't see this in SA for some time yet, the Scalpel 1 in XL is just landing but I don't think we've seen the Alloy Scalpel 3 or 4 yet. So definitely 2013 at the earliest. Might have to get Mendon to send one over.
