Mashudu - a recipient of a Build-a-Bike - told me this story yesterday:

He was on a dirt road and crashed somehow. A taxi had to stop quickly to avoid hitting him and this resulted in another car slamming into the back of the taxi. The driver of this car blames Mashudu and is holding him responsible for paying for the damage and "confiscated" his bike. Crazy.

All I could do was tell him to go to the cops.

Anyone have any other advice?

Ja I'd say he should lay a charge of theft... This stuff happens when people are uninsured - which presumably all 3 parties involved were...

Your following distance should always be far enough to avoid a collision if the vehicle in front of you has to do crash stop. The guy in the car behind the taxi is wrong, no question.

Lay a charge of theft. The second car is at fault for not keeping a safe following distance.

Especially on a dirt road where you distance should be even greater due to the surface.! But as it goes here in RSA everyone gets up your ass on the roads!

I agree, a big PK was deserved, can't believe how some people take chances!

Mashudu is riding this bike, but I'll swap it back for a MTB (when I have one) for him as he rides dirt roads a lot.
