Which degreasing lubricant would cause that? I have washed my bikes with various liquid soaps for ages with no braking problems - unless they failed to rinse everything with water.

In the last 18 months I have started adding Hope's S__t Sh!fter to my CRC orders. Developed to specially deal with cleaning brake components.

Not sure of the brands names but motorbike or normal engine cleaner if not diluted has a thin slimy film. Unless u use a power washer or a cloth to clean it off it sticks to parts.

Cool. I will be sure to steer clear of them.

And Prepsol? Even if it's diluted?

As long as its diluted, non corrosive and solution free. This is what you need to look for on the packaging. Once cleaned just give the parts a quick Q20 to protect from airborne elements. Chain, cluster etc use wet or dry lube or wax. Imagine using engine cleaner that corrodes ur parts. Might aswell throw ur bike into the sea.

Q20 on bike components?

I wont bring that stuff near any of my bikes.

u don't understand. I'm talking nuts and bolts, not moving parts...never

Sure, your brakes might not work due to some of the mentioned reasons, but I think there is a more likely reason for this. Chances are they took the pads out for inspection. By swapping the left and right pad around the pads will need to set all over again (simular to installing new pads). Just ride your bike so that the pads can set

Maybe it's also good to mention to never lube you chain while it's still wet, leave it to dry for an hour or two...

dumb question..if it was oil or something which got onto the discs and pads...will using clean green help to remove it?

Nope. You will need to take pads out and inspect them. Look for oily residue or any type of glazed smooth feel to them. If there is you will need to file or sandpaper to get down to the rough braking material. Sometimes it is better just to get new pads.

Also look at any oil on your rotors. Take them off and clean with a solvent or petrol etc. Just remember your brakes will need to be bedding in again after this process.

I don't think they would have bled the brakes if nothing was wrong with the brakes in the first place. Also, the OP should know if this was done as the LBS would have charged extra for this (normally not included in a fuyll service price)

IMO, it takes a special effort to stuff up a set of Hope's that were working fine.

I had Hope Tech M4's for almost 3 years. In all that time I never had to bleed them. In fact all I ever did was top up the brake fluid when the brakes started feeling a bit squishy. And even that was an easy job - just take the inspection cover off the reservoir and carefully top up the fluid. It's really that easy.
