Another bike hijacking near Kayamandi

Folks, just a warning to still be very careful riding on the R304 near Kayamandi coming into to Stellenbosch.

One of our club was hijacked there a few days back (full report in our club newsletter):

This has been a black spot for hijackings in the past and it seems to still be a bad place to be riding solo or in small groups.

This is really shocking. We are so far behind in Bloem that this doesnt happen yet. It will eventually for sure. Horrible to think that you cant go for a ride alone anymore due to the fear of possible hijacking.

Makes me the moer in

Sad and annoying - that stretch of road is such a useful link between Somerset West/Strand/Gordon's Bay and routes deeper into the winelands too. I've ridden it solo many times in the past to get to some nice cycling routes, but will have to avoid doing so now

Indeed that was a great link for guys doing the Polka/Kayamandi/Bottelary loop, I cut out Kayamandi and opted to go past Cloetesville thinking its safer but alas bike-jacking there as well...

I'm from Kuilsriver thus my options are becoming limited...Eersteriver is out as well, thus the Somerset(R44)/Eersteriver loop is out as well...I guess all I can do now is mostly returning the same way I came or maybe repeats of safe loops...

Why don't we start to rob them...panzies! I wish Kayamandi can just burn down and leave us cyclist in peace.

Please speak for yourself.

Sad that we can't ride safely - but you can't blame a whole community for the actions of a few bad individuals - at least I can't, anyway.

Do hope the police catch these guys and get them off the streets

That really sucks. My one friend was hijacked there and shot in the leg. The dude is ok now. I was just fortunate to have cycled that route for two years constantly without problems.

No, MTB Roadie.

It's a few individuals in that village that are the 'bad apples'.

Yup, I got klapped outside Eersteriver ... just under the Baden Powel bridge!

Hear what you're saying, but those communities are close-knit. They know exactly who's doing the hijackings and by not reporting them they are implicit?
