29er Wheelset with 15QR Thru Axle

Can anyone recommend a MTB wheelset for a 29er with a 15QR thru axle in the front. Most wheelsets I see online are just normal quick release...

Where can I buy it and approx price? Not looking to spend an exorbitant amount.

Thanks!

Stans and American Classic hubs have thru-axle converters available. With Stans you can get a hub cap for the conversion and with AM you can get a hub axle conversion.

(PS. I have a Stans Crest with thru-axle wheelset available for R4500 brand new).

Some of the wheels allow you to convert the front hub from a std QR to QR15 (ZTR & American classic for example)

What sort of budget do you have and where have you looked so far?

There are several wheel sets for sale here on The Hub.

Thanks for the info. So you literally remove the whole quick-release mechanism from the hub, and replace it with one of these conversions? How reliable are they? Has anyone tried them before?

I haven't really settled on a price. About R3000 second-hand, or about R4000-R4500 new. I'll keep my eyes open for something on The Hub. October is bonus month (hopefully), so looking to spend a few bucks on my bike. I'm a heavy rider (90-95kg at the moment), so apparently the Crests are not an option :-(

My freewheel is very quiet at the moment and I have a feeling it might be nearing the end of life, so I thought I might as well upgrade the whole wheelset while I'm at it. After Karoo 2 Coast I noticed an alarming amount of oil coming out of my Fox F29, so that also needs some attention. Eish... a MTB is expensive to maintain.

Yes, it's a simple remove and replace on Stans wheels, the hub is built for a 15mm axle and then reduced to 9mm.

At that weight go for Arch EX, Crest will not work for long.

The good thing about Stans is you can also convert the rear to thru-axle should you upgrade a frame and the freebody sounds lekker

There are so many giant 29er wheelsets with 15mm through axle for sale for cheap on the hub.

Aren't the Giant PXC 29 wheels 20mm? If not, that's great, as I know someone looking for a set.

Bomb proof, easily converted to any format, comes in cool colours, can be serviced with no specialist tools and you can get off the shelf bearings from bearing man = hope hubs with stans flow rims!
