PYGA vs SPECIALIZED epic

I'm deciding between above bikes. Enjoy doing stage races and single track. Had the privilege to test ride the Pyga( special thanx to Pyga and Revolution Cycles!) The bike is awesome on single track. Has anybody got feedback on how they compare in terms of single track vs marathon?

Stumpjumper Fsr 29er and Pyga 110 can be better compared, not epic, epic is really a race machine, best compared to the scott or cannondale.

Not really comparing the right bikes in an Epic vs PYGA 110... As V said Stumpjumper would be a better comparison. But then, who would compare a PYGA to a Spaz, erm, I mean Spez... ;)

Sorry for the highjack, but Jody, can you please respond to my messages?

I understand, but technically speaking would the Spez be that much quicker? Uhm...I'll keep quiet about my age. I'm moving over from hardtail 26" to 29" dual susp, so new experience for me.

I gather from mails that you own a Pyga? I really enjoyed the bike on the singletrack and thought I climbed much better than I'm used to. Any problems with keeping up with other guys on longer rides? Sorry for all the questions, but spending R30k on a bike is a big deal for me

Epic = M3 (Pricey for something non-boutique and fairly 'commin'... what people with money get when they don't have an imagination).

Pyga = X5 Rally kitted Subaru STI (may not be as fast on the smooth stuff, but you'll be thankful when you ride anything other than disctrict roads)

There ya go!

Come now, we all allowed to be dream land... or is that be in the clouds.

PYGA is plenty fast on the smooth stuff. Most SA MTBrs won't go any faster on an Epic. Our problem is we all think we Burry!

Pyga geometry sits between a Camber and a Stumpjumper, but with very short chainstays. A closer comparison would be a Giant Trance X 29er

Bike |HA |TT |WB |CS |FRONT|REAR |
Stumpy |69 |596|1148|450|130mm|130mm|
Pyga |69.5|590|1126|440|120mm|110mm|
TranceX|69.5|594|1120|452|120mm|120mm|
Camber |70 |587|1147|447|110mm|110mm|
Epic |70.5|589|1109|448|100mm|100mm|

@niterider; now that is an interesting table.

I assume that the bike with the lomgest WB and lowest HA (Stumpy) will be the most stable in a straight line but relatively slower to turn and track in a turn than the shorter (racing) bikes with steeper head angles.

To me it's most noticeable on fast, rough downhills. My GT Avalanche feels twitchy and you have to be wide awake. A friends Trance feels stable and keeps straight, I don't go fast enough round corners to feel a difference.
