Tell me you feel civil when the taxis keep on going through red robots' date=' on the wrong side of the road, in the emergency lanes and on the dirt shoulder of the road. Now look at his point of view. (and don't say its different because bikes aren't as dangerous as taxis) [/quote']

True......all the water in the ocean will not be able to wash my mouth clean....yet I repent afterwards and decide not to bow down to their level.....and I let it go.

This guy goes and writes about it in a rude manner that will only get my disrespect.

The fact of the matter is that HE IS CORRECT.  But his point would have been made a lot better if he chose to communicate is civil manner.

OK....ek gaan gou die pop corn kry.....hierdie kan weer 'n trane trekker word....Confused

Fetch me a coke whilst you're at it.

Ok, so he should swear in his column. Oh my mister taxi, you really shouldn't have pulled out in front of me as I ride past you resulting in me swerving off the road and causing my lovely road bike to take on the role of a mountain bike. O come on... he's frustrated. A simple well worded column wouldn't get a second glance.

But on the other hand, he has lost your respect for dropping to the level of all other frustrated human beings.

Actually change the coke to a slush please

Sorry, as a member of the human race (albeit only just - according to some) I take offence to your statement. I get frustrated. Why? I drive a car, I have a job with people who think sometimes differently to me, I have a 2 year old - and we're potting training him - talk about frustration. I am certainly not going to resort to verbal abuse and hurl it at him, my wife and everyone else I can find, merely because I am frustrated. Part of being a resposible, mature adult, is dealing with frustrations in a mature intellectual manner.

Come up to our level, don't stoop to his.

The fact his that what this guy is saying is how lots of people (most actually) perceive cyclists and to be honest he is right.

We are an arrogant bunch who think we can do what we want.  I have tried to think otherwise, but I agree with him.  I don't know why you are getting upset with him.  Just accept that we are a bunch of prats and move on

If you read my first post in this thread, you will see that I do agree, and I said that most cyclists are their own worst enemy when it comes to road behaviour. That said, I find this guy's remarks ill thought out in the light of the bigger picture. Subsequent posts still agree with his frustration, however, using such in-flammatory rhetoric does not help the solution, all it does is polarise the issue.

The cyclist with his attitude polarised it and I can't blame him for his ranting.  I get de moer in when I see cyclists do that and that's when I'm ON MY BIKE!  I see it way too often to see it as an exception.

An example was on one of BMC Fan's famour Hels trips where we went out and  swooshed through a red light in Stellenbosch.  Why, because the first guy did it and everyone folowed.  Why?  Because no one wants to be the wet blanket who berates the rest.  At the next light, before Helshoogte,  Marius and I stopped, but chatting to him it was obvious that we did because w felt sure we could catch up.

It's all part of the mob mentatlity and "I'm a real cyclist and that's what we do" mindset.  We all have it and we should just sit back and take the abuse.

Don't deny it, just take it on the chin rather than blaming other people for our attitude.

I never denied it.  I said we went through the lights, but I am ashamed we did.

I usually try to stop at the lights on my commute and my mates know I am going to stop (even if they don't!), so it ends up being a traffic lightr sprint to catch up, but it makes me stronger.

Like I said, we are in the wrong, but unable to accept it or change our behaviour.
