What criteria though, Eddy?

None really, I am open to all reasoned arguments.

Admittedly, i had been thinking road racing, but i can recognise the genius of Martyn Ashton and there have been some Steve Peat vs. Greg minaar posts which gets one thinking.

The reason it is not a poll is to get motivated opinions

Is your spreadsheet right as I see you have given EM 6 TdeF wins and LA 8.

Do you work for the UCI by any chance ? ;-)

I think that list is podium placings, not wins, LA came 3rd once giving him 8.

Hey Punchy, how come you rate Big Mig above Hinault and Anquetil who won more GTs than him or Contador?

Boonen and Cancellara are way down with 7 and 4 victories respectively. Merckx tops the list with 19 victories.

> Merckx

without a doubt. So dominant in all facets from the hour record to the tours to the track to the classics. Sorry there isn't a cyclist in the modern era that could focus on all areas, all season.

Hearing the vote for Steve Peat but Merckx is in a different league.

Agreed.

If you combine Classic & Grand Tour victories it will read as follows:

Merckx (30)

Coppi (16)

Hinault (15)

EDIT: No of victories added in brackets

For a big guy, he did spectacularly.

Plus his all-round qualities, that include some TT Rainbow Stripes.

The Jensie and Spartikus

They might not have the wins, but they bring a certain untainted passion and spirit to cycling. I love watching them ride and interact with the rest of the riders.

Super Mario also provided some great entertainment :-)

Nico Vouilloz

That's 2 votes for Vouilliz. Tomac the only MTB'er to win world cup cross country and downhill.
