I will be going for a ride from Muizenberg to Simons town on Sat 7.00am .We need to take our rightful place on the road and show that we are not going to be scared off the road.Just like we are not going to be scared off the cycle lanes.

I might be on my own here - but I am scared, I was shocked to read about this terrible accident and am not sure I want to be the one "showing that I am not scared off the road" - reading about this accident has made me realize again how dangerous it is out there, on our little fragile carbon bikes. I cancelled my ride this morning, and I am very sorry for the family of this fellow ride who died yesterday. Not sure how I can justify taking this kind of risk for now.

Gavin Hill, the Bristol bus driver caught on camera running down a cyclist, was immediately dismissed by his company and got 17 months in jail for GBH - not long enough to set a proper example for the motoring public in my opinion.

I'm waiting with great interest to see how Golden Arrow handle this.

Wonder what 'internal' action will be taken with the driver at Company GA?

Nothing will happen to the driver, GA will call it a "sad accident"

1. Hi Bronwen,

Is the GA bus driver on duty today? Will he/she be fired?

Kind regards,

(ME)

2. (ME)

According to company policy he was suspended immediately yesterday. The results of the police investigation as well as our own internal investigation will then be used to determine what happens next.

Kind Regards

Bronwen (GA)

Peter,

PPA's policy of not being proactive in cycle safety is why I am no longer a member. They focus only on funrides and spending a little money on MTB trails. There is also no strategic direction at PPA. How do you suggest I support your proposal above.

As a non member it would be very hard to do anything! But I also understand your sentiment as why you have chosen to be a non member ( probably quite close to my sentiment as to why I choose not to stand on the committee for another term). If you have some idea which fellow cyclist who are members agree with then I would suggest that you collectively put the idea in writing to PPA address to the EXCO. Expect an reply of write a proposal - which is probably why nothing actually gets done as only a small percentage of proposals will go forward and lets fact it it cost a lot of time and energy to put proposals together!

My feeling on the matter is PPA have more or less and to use an analogy it the ship (PPA) has been anchored in the harbor just taking on extra cargo (cash) for some years now!

Not as scared as I was yesterday morning...my son commutes on this route from time to time but took the scooter yesterday.Wake up call

You are incorrect that nothing will happen. Personally I'm not prepared to let this go without a satisfactory response from Golden Arrow. This is a two way street and we have the power to make things happen.

Re PPA investment stance

Can you open a separate thread that can engage the issue?

It's an important topic.

:-)

Please make suggestion on how you would like this debate started - as a poll or just a general feeling weather PPA should be just an "investment house" for cycling funds which are only partial accessible?

I have just taken a picture of a GA bus driving through a "NOENTRY" sign in DF MAlan street. Bus Number 4298. I will post the picture tonight.

I appreciate you sharing why you left and I'd like to hear from PPA why they are sitting on the cash. Do you have any thoughts as to the reasoning, or is somebody making money out of the interest?

I am correct as I spend 2 years trying to get GA to do someting about drivers on Plattekloof road.

And NOTHING happened, so I think that you are living in a dream world if you think that GA gives a damn.

They will give you all the "right" answers but next week the GA drivers will do excatly the same thing again, untill the next person is killed.

I can post 2 years worth of emails and then go to Plattekloof NOW and see how the GA busses behave....
