Heart Rate Max

Just to add, despite what they say, if you've got a Polar and are riding in a group, you can often pick up someone else's reading.

im glad i could help.

keep thoses interval training going, but dont over do it.

Trying my best to get back into it again properly.

213 must have been interference of some kind. Unless you're having SVTs or other tachyarrythmias, its not the flu that caused such an elevated heart rate reading. You would pass out before reaching such a high heart rate.

It did feel like i was going to fall over and die at that stage to be honest.

Will just regard it as an error and note my training moving forward.

If it happens again i will go for some proper testing to make sure its all good.

my HR monitor goes crazy if my cycling jersey is too loose and is flapping a bit in the wind. Check that thats not the problem.

Definately not the shirt,

my shirts are tight.

Now i just have to get used to doing those long boring Zone 2 workouts again

had that happen at the start of Lost City ride one year. I look down at the Polar and see a reading that does not look normal to me, the guy next to me was also fiddling with his Polar. As soon as we moved in the pens and the distance between myself and him got great enough my polar momentarily lost HR reading, then picked up my belt and gave me a normal reading again.

why would i pass you if i got it that high?

my tested max heart rate is 211 and and my anaerobic thresh hold was 200 .

theses formulas are boulder dash and never work.. get yourself tested...

Actually not. You just pick up interference. They are coded and pair with your unit.

The only way you could get screwed is if everyone starts their hrm's at the same time.

Thing is, I picked up a lady's hr when I didnt have my chest-strap on. The no. was registering on hers and my unit.

thanks, now to figure out where I stuffed up the calc.

210 - (37/2) - (0.02667 * (83*2.2)) + 1

I would have asked to adjust her strap for her cause of the eratic HR showing on my unit.whistling.gif

Sure that may be accurate for you. Considering this chaps MHR is 185ish, anything above that is likely to affect his heart. Once you go above your maximum heart rate, your heart does not have enough time between beats (the diastolic period) to refill adequately in preparation for the next heart beat (systole). This results in lower cardiac output and hence less output to your brain and hence you would pass out. Now considering his MHR (185ish), 213 seems a little outrageous, no? Hence, I suggest that it is most likely interference.

EDIT: Now whilst I will admit that a rise in body temperature due to fever does increase your heart rate (I think its 10bpm/1°C), it is unlikely to cause you to go over your maximum heart rate, and certainly not THAT far over. Considering what he has calculated (I disagree with your suggestion that they are rubbish) and tested is nowhere near that, I suggest interference.

52 years old. Male. 75kg. My max is 195. Well that's what I see just before my vision starts to cloud.

Seems the formula does not work for everyone but it is better than the 220 less your age rubbish

the MAS of BOD is indeed what the problem was.

Even using excell you have to be weary of the MAS of BOD

haha I just had a standard 4 maths flashback earlier - amazing that some of that stuff did actaully actually remains in there somewhere... who would have thunk it.
