increase your training by 10-15% every week, and you should be fine.

the only other advice i can give is for you not to get too stressed about it. that will upset any training you do and possibly be detrimental to your performance. just relax.

there is still a bit of hope left

Now might be the time to splash out on a good bike if you dont have one yet. not that it will make you that much faster, but at least you will be motivated.  if you currently are riding a mtb, a road bike definitely will assist in cutting down your time.

dont try to catch up, dont increase more than 10-15% per week. make sure you drink a recovery drink within half an hour of the ride ending. take rest days.

lastly, make sure everything is fine on race day by preparing now. take your bike in now for a service, not the week before. practice drinking/eating whatever you are going to do on raceday, now!. if it doesnt  suit you, at least you find that out in advance. pitch up early on raceday, and be in the gates earlier, rather than later. warm up properly.

and lastly, remember to post the pictures if you dont make it Wink

Cookie, keep the intensity fairly (but not too) easy, 65-80% max heart rate and add some climbs for strength. You still have 6 weeks so don't panic.

The thing here is to train regularly (5 days a week will do), and remember recovery.

If you can, do 3x1 hour, 1 x 2.5 and 1 x3hr increasing to 3.5 you'll get the miles in.

You cannot go forward unless you recover properly from your last session.

With 3 and 2 weeks to go do races, up to 3 hours will do, or higher intensity than you are doing now. By now you should be a bit tired.

Then taper for the last 2 weeks by doing shorter rides, remembering recovery, but keeping intensity higher.

Practise bunch riding skills, learn how to suck wheel close enough without falling off. This will add 20% + to your tempo (good pace) average speed.

For 3h30 you need to average just over 31kmh. You should be able to manage about 26kmh on a 3hr training ride alone reasonably comfortably to do that speed.

In the last week rather go easy to let the strength gained get into those muscles without them being too tired. You should feel snappy now.

 Good luck!

Hey all hubbers, some update on my training i did 2x 30km rides (all in wind) ,1x 45km ride and on sat a 25km spin @ avg hr of 145.Today i over slept once again (to much party) and had to ride alone again. My ride dist was 86km in a total time of 3hr16min which includes traffic, stop in jubliee square, hectic wind and not forgeting the rain.I feel iam improving however my legs are feeling bit tired and i have a pain behind my knee in the joint.Anybody know what it is and how can i solve it?..Cheers cookie

Pain behind the knee normally comes down to your saddle being too high, but it can be an overuse injury because you are training much more than you are used to.

Try and lower your saddle a centimeter or so. Even better get a proper bike setup from a place like cyclelab for instance.

If the injury persists then you are going to have to take some rest days.

Remember that even when you lower the saddle the pain are not going to go away immediately.  give it two or three weeks and see if it goes away.
