EPO as a recreational cyclist

Let me add to that, after some more thinking.

I hope they legalize doping - that way, the nutters (aka dopers) can carry on with their crazy mission, and us guys that 'race' for the hell of it (clean, as it were) can carry on like always. Clean, and not (too) worried about places. Because, in the end, for 'us normal okes' it's about completing a race, or a hard ride, and going "damn that was fun" and then boasting to our, admittedly non-cycling, friends about how tough it was, and how fast you were etc etc ad nauseum.

it wont matter. there will be 2 leagues, clean and doped.

you will still get guys cheating in the clean league, by doping. so we're back @ square 1

I don't think so, but I see what you did there. I think its the cheating thing that makes it different. To ride expensive bikes and not very fast, but enjoying it is okay, no?At least it isn't cheating .

I cannot speak for others, but substance abuse is on another level imo.

Well the pro's dont BUY R80000 bikes either. I think it is pathetic to drive a 4x4 in the city, but many people do. Leave me to enjoy my R80000 bike that I earned and ride legally, while you go and put a winch on your 4x4 for the trip to Spar tomorrow. Edited by cobuswes

I have a breathing problem as a result of a car accident years ago...

If i take EPO i will probably get the same amount of oxygen to my muscles as a "normal" person... Would it be cheating if i use it?

Lets put it this way. cheating is in my opinion the same as having an unfair advantage. At the amateur / recreational level this can mean many things. Having the income or money to buy a R80000 bike that weights in at sub 8kg against the student that has to ride a 13 kg donkey. Of course, if you own such an expensive bike, you will rationalise it as not cheating because of rules etc, etc, warra warra, but face it, you are not competing on fair grounds, all other things equal. The same goes if you can afford better nutrition, better "supplements" etc, etc. Sport will never be fair.

EPO actually does that effectively too . One more good reason to use it responsibly, under supervision, recreationaly. Until they make rules that you get unfair cognitive advantage by doing that ...

TOPWINE : So why don't CSA regulate bicycles to "post man pat type units", supplied by X factory............ Bull K@K

Rather spent the money on expensive bike / specialised training / riding clinic's - hence development of the sport.

Enhancers are short term... and many side affects

(And if you need those extra few grams, visit the porcelain prior to riding)

You missed my point, I don't want 'two leagues' - it would be the same as now (dopers and non-dopers in the same race) but we (non-dopers) can get the f on with what we're there for - having fun on our bikes. And then the people that don't know jack about cycling (and this whole doping saga) can stop bitching about 'dirty cyclists' We'd still not be worried about getting a podium (because face it, it's not gonna happen in any case) and they can eff themselves up royally. Then, maybe, the sponsors will wake up a little and spend their money elsewhere - say middle of the pack spot prizes / goody bags? But then again, I may as well hope for alien contact :D
