I came 19th in A1, but 37th overall... no way anyone in the latter groups managed those sort of times!! Looking at the winners times in groups A2 to A4 they were all slower and then suddenly A5 to A8 have super fast times. I personally feel if you have been diverted at the 1/2 way mark, DONT cross the finish line. You know you havnt ridden the distance and regardless of whether its a fun ride or not it just causes problems in the end!!

Apparently Max K is getting over a virus so just took its easy....

so my time was 2:33 on the 30km on B7

My 1st MTB race ever and only been riding for a few months now - so I'm very chuffed!

felt I would have done much better if not for all the traffic. hehe

And to add to my chuffness I rode the whole thing. Never got off to push!clap.gif

Obviously most of the 8th group missed a marker. The results have nearly only A1's and A8's on the first page or so. Nic White was also on a fully rigid singlespeed for a 2:09! Amazing!

Agreed, I started in A8 group and broke away from the group with a few others at the start and had pretty much no one pass me the entire race while I passed hundreds of riders. Thus at worst case I should have been 5th in the group standings. When I check the racetec results, I'm something like 80th in the group. So at least 75 (probably far more) riders took the shortcut. This was confirmed by the fact that a friend of mine started in A7 10 minutes ahead of me, I made up the time and passed him inside 8km and yet he crossed the line 25minutes before me.

What seemed to have happened is that at the T-junction under the Gautrain bridge, the late A7/A8 riders turned right toward the finish line instead of left and thus missed out a 18km or so loop.

What a stuff up from the organisers!

What!!! its a huge achievement man, that wall was hectic, i didnt even get halfway, and with all the people walking up and walking in the way it makes it 10 times more difficult getting up there!

I did indeed, although I must be honest, based on some of the comments I've heard, I don't think I fully appreciated the climb. I picked a low gear (not lowest - middle chain ring, 3rd gear ... what's that - 34/14, 34/15? .. no idea actually), and I ground it out, keeping a steady rhythm, looking just in front of my front wheel all the way up.

I Managed a 03:08 yesterday for the 55Km.

really was enjoying myself until the legs started cramping full-on, from the 2-hour point onwards.

From then, it was teeth--gritting stuff to get to the finish.

I was impressed with the general organisation.

Then I also passed a few riders who fell and possibly broke bones, medical assistance seemed to be 100% as well.

Hearing that some riders may have taken an 18Km shortcut does not make me very happy, but at least I know that my time & distance was accurate.

Yes it's up to the organisers to ensure this does not happen either, unfortunate that it seems to have happened though.

Hope everyone else enjoyed themselves as much as I did...

Cheers,

For most of the names I checked it was their first Racetec timed event. Many did their first seeded race according to SAS. Talk about a flying start to your carreer!
