Attitude and taking accountability. This standard "Ag man, it was an accident" bull***t about everything has got to stop. It starts at home with parents and their kids. Stop making excuses for your kids. If they stuff up make them apologise. Also, if you stuff up, apologise. This applies to everything in life, not just road usage.

Take ownership and accountability instead of passing the buck and blaming others all the time. Our government has unfortunately set an example of passing the buck, and our laws make it so easy to follow suit.

So much has been said about attitude, accountability, visible policing, enforcing the law, etc., before the tragic death of the late Burry Stander. We can post as much comments about these inciudents as we want. we even get at each other as cyclist because of the behaviour of some.

We need definitive action by the relevant authorities. The question should be: how do we get the authorities do take the required action?

Can our cycling authorities come up with appropriate action for the traffic/law enforcement to respond to the outcry.

Im all for giving us cyclists better protection, but 1.5m!!

If I think of driving over Chappies on any weeken, let alone the month before the Argus, it would make it impossible for a motorist to pass a cyclist at 1.5m, oncoming traffic and solid barrier lines.

There are many other narrow roads like this in Cape Town

The best solution, yet the most "improbable", is the awareness and respect/courtesy route - by both cyclists, motorists and pedestrians.

My non-cycling friend (yes, I even have a few of those) asked me something interesting re. the "1.5m law":

Will it then also be illegal for cyclists to pass cars closer than 1.5m?

As I said, interesting!

Imagine what happens after all those motorists who waited patiently to pass you safely along a narrow stretch (Kalk Bay?) sit and wait at the next red traffic light and you coolly zip through the stationary cars to get to the front of the que. You cannot do that and stay 1.5m away. Lets just assume for the purposes of the argument that you jump jump the red light also. I can imagine some very frustrated drivers who will then just have to pass you again and that cannot be very good to have them coming from behind after a few episodes like that.

(Just playing devils advocate)
