I'm looking for an alternative pro shop than Cajees or Kyalami cycles in these areas due to certain service levels.

This afternoon I went to one of the two to convert my tyres to tubeless when they advised me that I cannot convert my tyres due to the rims I have.I asked for suggestions and the answer I got just disappoints me.

I bought my tyres on CWC and I cannot see why there isn't a way to convert to tubeless.I have a Silverback Alpine 1 and I know about guys that have similar rims and they don't have any problems with the conversion. They advised me that the rims will leak and wont work I will need to buy new rims.

Can anybody assist me?.

Thank you.

Formula for tubeless:

1 X stans

1 x 20 inch tube

1 x new tyre (I use ust on normal rims)

I had the full stans rim strips, but the valve blew. New stans rim strips was 200 bucks vs price of 20inch tube. (cant remember, but was 20-40 bucks)

Watch the video above on how to do it.

(Ok it took me two tubes to get it right clap.gif )

Go with Mudda's formula. The problem for a LBS in using anything other than tubeless tires on tubeless ready rims is that you can waste a lot of time and effort (and strips and sealant) before you get an acceptable outcome. I also won't do it for a customer although it can obviously be successfully done.

Iv'e found some rim and tire combo's can be difficult and require more effort, also found 26" easier than 29"

absolutely correct...some rims will be more challemnging than others...but definately not impossible. Rather go ghetto rout than rim strips in any case.

Oom Kaspaas - No, no need for new tyres...why? it the same principle...

Gregor - hook up with some one like suggested. It will be worth it + you make new buddy...all ove a beer or two!!

Do I absolutely have to use new tyres when doing the ghetto tubeless convertion?

Nope , I've fitted old rather perished non tubeless tyres plenty times with no hassle , from skinny 2.1 to bigger 2.35 . Just remember one rule with tubeless - always use Stans , other stuff works but when things get difficult stans always wins...
