I was waiting for some 3/4 sleeve shirts in XL and all they got were the blue ones not a fan of blue so there goes that idea.

Ordered on of those Giant Rail trail lids today. The shop only had the orange in my size hence the order. Looks great. Fit feels awesome and at a really good price in relative terms. I have a bit of a helmet fetish it has to be said.

Plus it matches my Reign.

i think those lids look damn sweet! Good choice!

Giant Rail initial impressions

Did a ride with it yesterday. Roadie ride. I WAS going to do my sighting lap at the Helderberg national with it on Saturday but when I got there EVERYONE had crashed at least once on the powdery track so I thought better of it.

Back to the Rail.

I've had a Bell Super and a Fox Flux And some other Bell that I can't remember the name of. First up I was never a fan of my Bell Super. I thought it was way too hot and heavy to be a trail lid fit for South Africa. The Go Pro mount was a COMPLETE fail. Having said that there's a lot of people who obviously disagree with me based on the amount of them I see out on the trials. My Fox Flux is great apart from one tiny thing. Visibility through tight corners is hampered when trying to look through the corner.

Initial impressions on quality of the Rail are that it's a little more low rent than the Bell Super and about the same as the Fox Flux I currently have. The helmet straps seem a bit flimsy and only adjustable under the chin. Truthfully tho I've never seen a helmet strap fail. The clips tho..... As far as adjustability goes I've never messed with the goodies under the ears anyway.

Features

The visor is very thin. Much like the Urge. I guess this is to stop it cracking in a crash. It also moves out of the way easily so you can put your goggles up there when riding up if you're a #duro kind of guy. There's also a handy goggle strap to keep them in place.

The lid comes with 2 sets of pads (Thick & Thin), is adjustable for height and has one of those dial systems so it's fully customizable in terms of fit. The only possible draw back is the lack of adjustability under the ears but that never bothered me. It comes in 3 sizes and each one comes with 2 sets of pads. so you SHOULD get one to fit you no matter how odd shaped your scone is.

I think Dragons are only bringing in 2 colorways. The yellow/orange one and the black/blue. One of those lumo Reigns with the yellow/orange.....

There's also a Go Pro mount. It's just a flat spot where you can put a Go Pro sticky mount should you want one. But for me that's by far the best Mounting solution. Why go and re-invent the wheel when all you need to do is provide a flat place to stick a sticky mount?

Initial ride impressions.

I loved the airflow. the large vents definitely help with airflow and my glasses worked just fine. There's not much else to say. It feels like it's not really there which is a pretty neat trick in my book.

I'm not one to push stuff just coz I have them but for me the Rail is the best Trail Lid I've had. If you've got a funny shaped head and fiddle with the straps under the ears then rather try one on. The great part is stock isn't a problem. Dragons are probably SA's oldest importer of cycling goods. I got mine from Giant Cape Town.

Nothing there pop in often to check but all their sizes are for giaaaaants and as I am tall I don't fall into the ginormous crowd (2 or 3xl and 40 and up sizing) plus Fox SA don't bring in 3/4 sleeve shirts into SA they say there is no market.
