I picked up a 2011 GT Force Carbon Pro last week for R9k, at that price I'll live with the yellow...

(Pretend its Santa Cruz Bronson tennis ball yellow).

Amped to get into more Enduro type stuff. I've always been into mx and bmx so it makes sense to have a more "fun" bike.

De-white (incl forks) in progress - will post updates soon...

I've read mixed reviews on the geometry of the Force (yoda??) but Ill ride it and see how it fits my style of riding.

If I get into enduro and follow a series (my plan), I'd eventually look at a NS bikes Soda or something trick like that to play on.

Opinions?

Nice!!!

I like the yellow

I enjoy my Sanction (slacker head angle)

I am also in between sizes. I ride a large at the moment and have added a 30mm stem. Feels a little better, bike feels slightly too big. A medium also feels a little cramped. SO i have to make do

Doesn't make sense at all, but I had a similar thing with my Shova M' L experience.

Was running a 90mm stem on the medium, but with anything shorter like a 70mm it felt very cramped.Top tube is 580mm (if memory serves me well)

Now with the large I am running a 45mm stem & it feels perfect! Top tube is 610mm

580 + 70 = 650mm

610 + 45 = 655mm

Hi everyone.

So I'm building a Shova ST, going 1x10. 34 or 32 chainring??? Going to ride Jonkershoek mainly with the bike. Zee or SLX rear, and lastly narrow wide or simple chainguide? Hope you guys can help me decide...

Nice bike to build up

Keep us posted!

I have a chainguide in the classifieds. Send me PM (if you're interested & we can talk. Will do free postage)

I am using a NW chainring though, but they do cost a pretty penny.

Thanks dude, I was looking at sick 180mm machines (ns soda, banshee, knolly) but eventually realized that we don't really have that terrain up in gauteng, unless going full on DH.

I've seen guys run Cane Creek Anglesets to slacken the Force - will look into it after I've ridden it.

Yeah... Angleset now is like 3k.

My 2.5cents on the force carbon is...

It rides awesome ! Rough and hard! The 69 head angle is not happy with steep descents but I haven't found anything super steep in jonkers and tokai compared to where I ride

If I compare it to my new trance it's very different. You sit "on top" of the force where as you sit "in" the trance. The trance is far more nimble and ninja like and doesn't really like to Bash through stuff and prefers going light over obstacles where as the force just blows over everything. I'm still struggling to beat my force times even though I'm fitter than I was then.

I would recommend running the back softer and the front a bit harder to counteract the head angle. The I drive can take it very very well with the rp23! And keep that seat low! I kinda miss smashing through stuff.... But I love my trance and the different style I have to ride with it.

My angleset came in at half that price.

I want to opt for a -2º if someone want to buy my (1 month old) -1.5º headset.

That force is awesome - yes the headangle is a bit steeper than a normal new enduro bike but it is fine and does not affect the ride. The geometry was designed to be a longer travel bike that handled like a 26er XC bike.

Slap on a short 50mm stem and wide bars (730+) and you will have a great time.

I love mine ... had it in Lesotho this weekend and it was amazing ...

Do you have 13K burning a hole in your pocket at the moment?

Who is selling?

Whilst discussing head angles, another option (if your frame allows it) is Burgtec Offset shock mounting hardware.

However you need to keep in mind that this will lower your bb and the rear wheel will come closer to the seat tube a the end of the travel. Effective travel remains the same, but depending on the leverage ratio of the bike it can for example sit 10mm into its "old travel" at 0mm and it can go 10mm beyond its "old travel" at full stroke.

Thanks for the input, looks like its the kind of bike I was looking for. Most of my bikes are GT and I like the way they ride. (GT Speed Series 24" and GT Zaskar 9r carbon Pro)

I might take you up on that, need to read up on what the guys are running on theirs, I think it was around that.

PM me with a price please.

Thanks for this Nigel, Im pretty stoked at picking it up for R9000, I was preparing myself to bleed on this venture!

Running a 50mm Hope on my 9r, as someone mentioned recently about the M/L size issue, I am the same, the L 9r Zaskar feels huge, and was remedied with the shorter stem, but the Force is a M...

I hope its not going to feel too cramped. (dropped it off at LBS for a full run through, and to get rid of white bits)

Cant wait to take her out this weekend
