That sucks. 180km is far enough without any hills :(

I see this as a welcome change. IMSA is one of the easier races in the world if you consider the winning times in general. The weather can however make it harder as we have seen before.

New route will make us feel like its kind of a new race..... should be very exciting with the whole 10 year thing going on.....

Remember that there will also be one less climb out of town which is a 180m climb if I remember correctly.

That could hardly be considered a "climb". It's more of a gentle incline that reduces your speed by 0.5km/h.

But it is the only one currently.

Strategy, strategy, strategy.

First time IM for me. Was looking forward to the flat course. As was previously said, Ironman is not a muffin baking contest.

Going to be even easier to over cook it now on the bike.

Yes.... I reckon that might just be what is added, although on second thought I can't see that they will manage to almost 'close' Beach & Seaview. Residents will not be happy.

It sort of adds 30km to the current route, so makes sense. Suppose we will be going up past Beachview first (as opposed to up Seaview Rd first)?

Going up Seaview first is 5k hill and then you come down 3 sisters and Maitlands.

So yes, other way around will be the opposite.

But can't see how they will manage to close that whole section, you will be cutting the residents off from the outside world.

The road narrows to having no shoulders not long after the current turn around point from what I can see on Google street view. This will not be suitable for two way bicycle traffic. I think this exact route is unlikely.
