You are right Dave. Not sure whether they will try a shorter version of the Herald route but I guess we will know next week. They might decide to keep the bike as is as the swim should thin out the field a bit more, but maybe not enough?

Can they add flat road with a few descents?

The turn around at IM at around 30km... how far does that road go on for?

Garf, as Dave said, just after the current turn the road becomes narrower with no shoulder and is basically the road Azi posted the link for, you will get an exact picture of the road further on.

Don't know if freeway is an option by closing a lane or two and continuing along the coast and turning west later.

PE is small and word gets around quickly - it won't be on the freeway - you will turn off the seaview rd and do a bit of climbing - I reckon looking at around 800 to 900m ascent per loop so 1800 in total but some nice descents thrown in! Nice scenic route!

Train for hills guys. Did the proposed loop on Saturday. Its tough, there will be some shattered dreams I'm afraid. If you where going for a PB on the old course - best you rethink that.

Has it been finalised? Please let us in.

Is it the route we discussed?

Ugh, seriously unpleasant news for me. I'm total crap on the hills and really enjoyed the flat course.

Time to start some serious dieting.

This is not great news. We do not have hills to train on.

What goes up must come down... So just do a few extra climbs and spinning sessions in your training....... Its not like they are adding a mountain to the route now are they? Apparently the swim course will remain flat

Who wants a pancake flat course, I find it easier to have a few hills to change position on the bike and to add a bit of interest

Its Ironman....its not supposed to be easy.

(its very easy for me to say this as I'm not entered for 2014 :whistling: )
