I took a couple of weeks off from IMSA and tried to keep things going through winter. Did at least a 1500m swim and 5km run per week just to keep it going (bearing in mind I am NOT a runner and really struggle with knee/hip issues - not much I can do about this) but did quite a bit of cycling (mtb) as I did Trans.

Have slowly started building the swimming and running since then and kept pace with the cycling, also throwing in a couple of gym sessions a week where possible for the core and general strength.

I roughly do the same distances as you a week on swimming and cycling but less running.

Enjoy the Kersie, I hear its a lekker tough race. Have to stay home this weekend else I would have gone!

May I ask what work you do?

Does your company try and do a little better and grow every year?

Should IM only be limited to a small number of people?

Do you actually want the sport to grow?

What are your thoughts on Roth?

What is your idea to make full IM more accessible to more people or do you prefer to remain a special small minority that have done it?

Did it occur to you the additional funds/people would create some part time work for people? Require more sub contracting for small business in the PE area. that's also 500 more beds for a few nights, 500 more people filling the restaurants and other establishments further benefitting the economy of one of SA poorer provinces, retailers will sell more equipment, which could result in better pricing for all. The list goes on .......

Did you think of anyone else besides yourself with that statement?

I'm not on this site to make enemies with anyone. My views are my views and I don't have to justify them to anyone.

Like I said I am happy with the course and I made peace with the entry fee else I would not have entered. I know how these guys operate and trust me it has nothing to do with what benefits PE will have. Its all about their own bank account.

My opinion of the organizers is that of school yard bullies and that is one of the reasons they lost and still do not have a title sponsor. (its obvious that they don't need one now)

Unfortunately as I mentioned in a previous thread, I love the event and that's why I keep coming back. Whether I will be back after next year or not will be decided on how the race goes.

I sincerely hope that I am proved wrong and can take back my words but until then I'm sticking to them.

Hope to see on the course somewhere so we can high five each other for the love of the sport.

No more chirps from me.

Hello Bubbles and Davem

I don't know how it happened. Everything was going so well. My bike was sold, tekkies put away. I stopped for 3 full months. I felt great, I even picked up weight... then it happened.. I had a relapse and entered IM again. Forgive me...

I lost concentration for that one second

You are doing better than I.

My bike sits in my entrance hall waiting for me to get home. I stroke her lovingly every night. She gives that skeef look when I go to work. I know I am neglecting her. The weekend my love, the weekend.

Because I am committed to her, I now have to satisfy my fetishes by other means. I bought a new wetsuit that cost more than my first bike.

I want to buy her pretty things. I see a disc is in her future. That black carbon glinting in the sun will make her really happy.

We have a dirty weekend planned at Midmar in December. A whole lot of her friends will be there. Wonder where that will lead?

Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery. This is a safe place, we discuss or problems in a constructive and caring manner  . No body trolls anyone else, you'll only get messages of care and support. :whistling:

Now.... Group hug and lets all sing Kumbaya while holding hands.

I know its hard to tell from a car video in fast forward, but those "hills" don't look bad at all - maybe the first bit up Lakeside Road, but it certainly doesn't look like there's anything much more than the Mount Pleasant "hill"... any input PE guys?

Will do a recce ride of the course in December though to check it out for myself

Hi Foxbat,

I didnt mean to offend you and im not here to make enemies either. I have started another thread to discuss triathlon, training race ect and not entries, complaining and negativity. My hope, as stated was to interact with like minded people about triathlon not bitch about other people being successful and/or greedy.

More of this!!!

Svan unfortunately the Mount pleasant hill cannot be compared to the rest of the hills.

Lake farm is about a 1-2km climb. It is rather steep. After that there is a decent and straight after that decent you will start climbing all the way to Cows corner. It is not steep but it is a rather long climb.

You will then go down what we call the 3 sisters. Luckily we are doing it reverse. The last one is a bit steep but you will have momentum going into that hill so won't be bad. This section is basically 3 rolling hills. It is not bad at all.

After this you will descend down To maitlands. You will then climb maitlands. Maitlands is about a 2 km climb. I hate climbing but if I chose one hill to climb in the world it would be this one. It has the most breath taking views.

Then you will have one last little climb leaving Seaview. It is not bad at all but will definitely hurt you on the second loop if you not careful. You will then have about 40 odd kms back to transition on the route we already know

Can someone maybe give us an indication of how this new route compares to the likes of the Argus / 94.7 / OFM / Amashova? Compare ONE lap of IM course (90km) to these races for ease of understanding.... Maybe some guy with a GPS who have done them all?

I also hope they have more mechanics on route next year as there will be more ground to cover and more athletes to "assist"......

You can look at the profile of The Herald Cycle route. The difference is that Lakefarm won't be on it as they take a different climb. As well as the drag up to Cows Corner won't be on there. But you will be able to check out Maitlands.

Maybe we can even compare it to Midlands Ultra?

Thanks Fabes -

Sounds a little more difficult than it looks in the video then. I'm not too concerned though, do enough climbs round cradle every weekend. When I did IM this year and heard all these stories about "Fire Station hill" and "Mount Pleasant" I thought theses would be hills, but they were noting more than a speed bump and little incline for a km or two!

I am going to be in the EC over December (St Francis) and will probably pop through to PE to ride the route one morning early if any is keen to join me. Not sure what day - probably somewhere round 27 - 30 Dec...

I noticed nearly all over the new section has no road shoulder / yellow line - are those roads generally quiet and safe to ride early morning?

Where are you guys in your programs? I know it is different for every individual but I am just interested? I know Garf is waaaayyyyy ahead on his running :w00t:

My peaks (longest) at the moment as follows:

Swim - 2500m

Bike - 120km

Run - 20km

Total distances per week max:

Swim - 7500m

Bike - 220km

Run - 35km

Shouldnt you rather measure it in time? I have quite a bit of hill training in mine (lucky thing, huh)

I started from scratch 14 weeks ago. Got a proper coach and also told him that I want to do a easy DC so my cycling is bit loaded at the stage.

Lost 10 kg which will help.

Seems like we are on about the same distances at this stage. Think I will amp it up a bit during the holidays.

Swim - 3 km

Bike - 165 km

Run - 21.1 km

Swim - 6 km about

Bike - 227 km

Run - 36 km

Longest week 14 hours

shortest week 5 hours

average week 9:46 hours

I am going to be there - just not sure exact dates yet, will let you know.

Question to the locals / IM veterans - Re Run route - it seems to go thorugh the university? If so is it possible to train the full course - any acces issues etc? I know its "flat" but want to recce it anyway...

I think us Free State and Northern Cape okes must come down one weekend and train on the route.......... mmmmm maybe we can even go for a training swim

I'm going to be in P.E. from the 14th of December, plan to do a 1/3rd practise tri (1300m swim/60km bike/14km run) on Monday the 16th. Might ramp the bike to one loop of the new course though...
