Zinio is great. I still have issues with the pricing. Some of the magazines are really ripping us off. I cannot believe that printing costs are only 30% of the value of the printed copy.

Perfect for overseas magazines, no longer have to pay in excess of R150 (at CNA) a copy

Don't know about magazines, but newspapers cost more to print than the cover price. Would imagine it is the same with mags…

A bit late but for those that wondered (like me...)

Zinio is a multi-platform distribution service for digital magazines, with more than 5,500 magazines from a wide range of publishers.[1]

Users can access their magazines through a web browser or on custom apps for Apple iOS, Android and Windows 8 smartphones and tablets, and download magazines to read offline. Magazines, including back-issues, may be purchased individually or through subscriptions, with new issues downloading automatically. Zinio is accessible in 33 languages.[2][1]

how does the business model work ?

some magazines are at 50% of the printed costs (popular mechanics is the one I am thinking off, well at least a year ago when I subscribed), others are exactly the same price as the printed copies, and others at about 30%.

As mentioned, it took a while to get used to it and I agree with Slowbee, some magazine costs are a joke but nothing beats carrying 10 + magazines in your back pocket.

I have a few subscriptions but quite honestly I still like the real deal.I also have a Kindle but only buy books that I don't mind not having a hardcopy for my library.

It is cheaper of course to go the paperless route.

Imported magazine prices area crazy, in switz I pay Chf 14.50 for Mountain Bike Action magazine

The Dollar to Swiss ROE is 1 : 0.97

If I recall the magazine is US$4.95 = Chf 4.77

Its same in SA, a huge rip off

What systems is Zinio available for other than Apple and can you have the same account on different systems, i.e. on mobile phone, laptop, home PC and tablet?

Profit isn't made on cover price; it's made on advertising…and for that you have to "sell" circulation and readership (measured two different ways) to advertisers.

There is a nice 100 years of TdF mag on Zinio and a cool, free Red Bull mag - worth checking out. Also got last years TdF guide on Zinio. I see you can also get the Huisgenoot on it - had a special last week...

I've been using Zinio for about 4 years now, it's great.

The only negative (for me) is that you can't move/setup your library in a specific storage location. On a pc, it uses its default location on your c: which becomes an issue when your library grows to 10's of Gb, and starts 'hogging' space on your expensive ssd. The old software allowed you to put your library on a different partition/drive, which was way better.
