Was going to do this ride but the amount of rain that came down today worries me that the course might be the same mudbath as last yr. not in the mood for the repairs afterwards. Will now prop sit this one out

@Zilla There are a few spots that are always wet in winter due to mountain drainage. 90 % of the course will be relatively dry. Mountain Biking is a winter sport... Come ride. It's Bastille Festival and this town is pumping.

Huh-uh, mtb is not a winter sport, MUD SUCK!!! CHAIN MUD SUCK!!!

Mmmm, was pondering the idea of riding this the whole day, and the rain this afternoon did not help in a positive way to decide, BUT kit bag packed and ready to go,come am!

Yeah go for it - was just a mild little drizzle just to pack the loose for extra grip.

Had no intention doing the race. But with my groupride gone bad, ( Started to be mtb, then road and then mtb. So l pitched with mtb and road shoes) I ended at my house at 8h00 all dressed up and nowhere to go. Remembered the race and decided to give it a shot.

It was one of the nicest mtb routes l have done in a while. Some technical downhills (rocky as hell) but l managed :) and a mixture of single track for km and km and short sections of nice open gravel roads (for me to make up time :) ) No mud (apart from the odd splatter here and there) and a all over nice route.

Well done! to the "route master" :)

Edit :I did the 32km

Awesome ride. Changed to the 32km after I brought two left shoes. That's what happens when you pack in the dark  . Right foot super sore, but it was worth it.

Loved the singletrack overlooking the dam, super smooth for super fast ride.

Definitely going to be back for the 45km next year. Big up to the race organisers for a well organised event. Just the right amount of chaos to make it fun  . Nice to see some of the big names there as well. Had a chance to watch the pros start, and it really was a who's who of top young riders.

Forgot to say that the course was also just wet enought to make it interesting and fast.

Racing with two left shoes - yoh!

Not recommended for the faint hearted. The alternative was to drive all the way back to town, without doing the race, which I definitely was not keen on.
