so you don't know either.

Pull your finger out and do some research yourself instead of sprouting all these inaccuracies

There are set grades and scales which govt and private work to

There are exceptions to the rule but there are accepted norms for that as well

That's easy, they have their fingers on ALL the bucks

Even after the recent financial crisis the big guys who claim the big bucks because they "ultimately carry the can" are still smiling and laughing....all the way to the next bank

What depth is that, that bankers get paid way to much for bonuses?

you accused me of not having any idea what people earn, so i asked you to tell me. you refer me to google, which indicates that you don't have the figures off hand - neither do i. so google it will be for both of us then.

That's the problem right there, no recourse for sending the banking/ finance sector into meltdown

The way to look at it in my opinion is effort put in.

It has been proven time and time again.

My wife works for one of the biggest and is getting promoted constantly.

I work for a large company and do a very similar job but get close to 25% more than her salary.

I work a good 2-3 hours more a day and am constantly adding more value to our business as it is growing,

her business wont really grow as it is the biggest in its field so she adds little value.

Thus the reason why I earn more than her although we do similar jobs and she is more qualified than I am.

Add the beers you owe me to that list ;)

The upside is that I'll give you one to take home with you and see if that lubes you up well enough, no confirmation or detail required thereof...

talking about which... it's long overdue. Do you accept kegs?

I doubt that anyone can be a worker as referenced in my example (miner at the rock face).

Why is it that only a few can be brokers, what's so special about them?

I'm sure the rock face worker feels the same about the broker i.e. being unable to do the rock face type work.

I've seen a few "office types" who have tried to be "blue collar" workers and they cannot do it and end up moving into the management (higher pay) role after a few years, just like I've seen blue collar types move into management and they don't cut it either.

I'm not suggesting brokers don't have stress or don't work hard, I know a few and know what kind of stress and lifestyle they have.

Sometimes the rock face worker doesn't make it home alive, and I reacon he stresses about the dangers he has to face every day and how he is gong to make ends meet / support his family.

Stress is stress and does not discriminate.

How many brokers die or have been injured / disabled as a direct result of their profession?

EDIT: Broker as in commodity broker not stock broker

I understand and agree with what your saying in principal and I'm not saying that workers in your kind of position should not be paid better than the average laborer.

I'm referring more to the size of the gap between the "paper pusher" and laborer, in some cases (depending on the industry) the gap is huge, as in my example of the commodity broker and miner.

Well firstly I know rock miner in CH earn excellent money!!!

Im not saying the miner doesnt have skills but rather saying the skills of the finance guy are not as common. I would still say it would be easier for white collar to move in a manual labour than vice versa

Yes - you are out of your depth and talking out your @ss. You have changed your tune several times over the discussion. I work in a job where I have access to people salaries - unless you do the same you dont have the information at hand as I do.

ahhh this makes me chuckle ...... Do you perhaps work for COSATU? Your understanding of economics and finance would fit in well
