She got off far too lightly.

Winds of Winter manuscript is at the publishers.. he just need to finish writing the last book.. perhaps seeing what they've done with his story will give him some motivation and inspiration to finish his story.

Of course they can... He is writing a book.. it is his story.... Not the TV's story.

Edit.. Plenty of examples where a book has a different ending to a movie or TV show

The show runners plain and simple ignored 2 important storylines.. just left them out.. Martin doesn't write something unless it important.

It needed at least 2 more seasons if not more.

Watching the last season is like watching a highlights reel of a deep & intriguing, complicated story - it's a pity everything is such a rush.

Story wise they could have easily filled 3 more series but I assume the production just grew ridiculously time consuming, expensive & large so they had to finalise it now.

On the books - I don't see Martin ever finishing the last one. Clearly the scope of story just grew too big for him to handle and it doesn't appear that he has a plan or strategy on how to finish it. Also he is now stinking rich, got a whole lot of side projects as distractions + he is already old.

We have been hearing the Winds of Winter is almost finished since around 2014...

And at the pace he is writing the last one will probably take anything from 15 to 20 years to finish.

I would be happy to be proven wrong on this one

He has written a lot of other books in the meantime.. sigh. I hope we do get the last books in this series.

Maybe Bran actually does something useful some how.

And are we sure that is was Drogon that Tyrion saw in Valyria... maybe there is another one out there?

I hope there are more otherwise that spells the end of the dragon species, doesn't it ?

(just read more fan theories about other dragon possibilities.Doesn't look like I will get much work done this morning)

So, no new dragons then  :(

Is that the end of their kind?

I suppose people will be relieved...
