Most buoyant wet suit?

Spot on....wet suits are great at lifting the legs with very little effort required resulting in less effort and faster times. The problem is when you end up doing a swim that does not allow wetsuits.....

Here's a link (for Henley1) to have a look at, they have some good advice on how to improve your technique.

A few questions for the wetsuit specialists.

I have a Blue Seventy Helix which has loyally served me for five years. When I started as a skinny runt, it fitted perfectly. Now as a slightly less skinny runt, it feels tighter round the shoulders. I have also always felt hindered in the shoulder area. My shoulders fatigue far quicker in the suit than in the pool. I concentrate on making sure the wetsuit is as high possible so that my arms naturally extend forwards when horizontal. It feels the best that the suit can.

My questions:

Do the less budget wetsuits have different 'feel' / resistance in the shoulders. What makes them different? Panel structure / material etc?

Sleeveless seems a better bet for resistance but you lose insulation in colder waters. Do the arms have any other benefits?

Buoyancy is not an issue.

From my perspective there are a number of issues solutions etc. so will try keep this as short as possible.

Firstly from the above it appears that you have perhaps built some muscle mass or padding or both :)

You mentioned the suit fitted perfectly but you still had restriction

This could be because you were borderline between two sizes? (would of been good to possibly have tried both sizes out at the time)

Pulling the suit up is good. However it is also Important to ensure that the arm pit area is as snug as possible. This can be done by getting a friend to slide his hand in a packet and then around your shoulder and then shift the suit toward the spine this will take pressure of the shoulder muscle and reduce stress on the muscles around the scapula area.

The entry level suits are made up of different grade of suit material. than the top end. However even though you get more flexibility you also get a more vulnerable material. So more care would be needed when putting the suit on. Cheap Shopping bags and ORGANIC lubes are perfect tools to help.

The More expensive the suit the more technology is put into the suit. Technology definitely becomes a major factor when doing longer distance swimming as the focus shifts from not just buoyancy but economy. You could easily do a long distance swim in an entry level suit but it is definitely the technology that is going to determine what sort of 'ride' you going to have'

eg. Entry Level suits (single sleeve) (hold the cuff of your shirt and extend your arm and you will feel tension where your shirt is stitched. Same concept with single sleeve suits.) over a longer distance this tension becomes amplified.

Mid range suit designs work out technology to combat any tension and increase mobility. eg vector Pro x is multi panelled through out the sleeve to ensure the sleeve follows the muscle groups movement with little stress around the arm as possible.

Top end suits with the advanced technology further enhances the swim feel through a more flexible material and even more design features.

Full sleeve versus sleeveless.

Full sleeve keeps you warmer

Full sleeve reduces drag

Full sleeve provides compressive qualities that assist in the prevention of muscle break down.

sleeveless provides a more natural feel of the water.

slightly easier to put on and take off.

Nice to have on the East coast but here in other areas I feel you would be a little cold.

Hope this helps

Thanx to the several meaningful responses! I'll do some follow-ups as indicated.

Pity there are so many folks fooling around on forums like this. Amazing how anonymous cowards reveal their real make-up! Rather than waste your own and others' time with silly comments (seldom funny!!), you might contemplate to go do some training instead. That would be far more productive, and you might even end up as hot as you pretend to be. Alternatively just go away.

Mr. Moderator, is this flaming on my side?
