Found a small crack on the bottom of my fork.

Obviously cant leave it.

Can it be fixed? If so where in JHB should I go?

Talk about a rollercoaster of a day...AM got paid out by SARS...PM worst nightmare when inspecting my frame.

That could just be the paint crack from where the QR bonds to the fork.

Andy Mac 082 786 0940 from Macarbi Racing, out in the South.

I have seen quite a few Carbon repair ads in the Classifieds here as well.

yeah I "tested" the weakness and there doesn't seem to be any give so fingers crossed its just paint

Solomons in woodmead have brand new carbon forks for like 300 bucks... May be an alternative..

Thanks bud. Not keen to turn my pinarello into a chinarello though so it'll have to be the real deal

Just an idea, take some fine water sand paper and clean the paint on that area until you can see bare carbon and then see if its just the paint. If it's a crack them try and replace from insurance if its worth it.

Could be where there is just a teeny weeny bit of flex where the carbon is bonded on to the Al lug, and not a problem (maybe). There are techniques to test for cracks, the science on Non Destructive Testing involving x-rays, dies, UV lights etc which is used in the aviation industry where exact to go for that I cant say.

I rekon its a paint crack. Take it to a Pinarello dealer. What about the warranty. Maybe it will be replaced for you.

My Cannondale frame cracked. Super service to replace it. They however refused to replace the fork. Does not form part of the frame warantee as forks are separately supplied by a fork manufacturer. I had to have the fork custom sprayed as it did not match rhe new frame paint scheme.Maybe Pina has a different policy for claims. Edited by Turtle Man

Your worst nightmare would have been wondering WTF happened when you woke up in hospital. Look at it this way, be happy you found it now.

Good luck in getting it sorted.
