I have had AMC 420's and different sets of Eastons . Nothing bad to say about them except bit of flex in the 420's, but I have a set of Elites now. Best wheels jet.

, and they had a stupid freehub design for a long time. Many team mates had insane rear hub squeal on Ksyriums - not difficult to fix every now and then, but you can get better for the money from Shimano, Fulcrum or Campy imo.

I second this, especially regarding the insane squeal and stupid freehub on the Ksyrium Elite. I thought my wheel was going to explode. The spokes also tend to wear into each other at the back, whereas the Fulcrum (Racing 3) spokes are offset a bit so that they don't make contact.

3 problems I know of on Mavics:

1. Freehub squeal

2. Spokes alu spokes seize in the alu nipples. Have to cut the spokes off and replace spokes and niples to true the wheel if that happens.

3. Rim cracks at nipple holes.

Eastons also look nice, but I have not ridden any.

Thanx for all the advice!

Seems like there is a lot of mixed preferences out there. I however like the look and the finish of the Mavic's and there are a lot of positive (... and some negative) comments towards them. Got a great deal on a set at Bruce Reynecke Cycles and they should arrive this coming Friday.

Will let you guys know how they are ... really hope they are good as on my budget does not allow for another wheelset for the next 50 years! ;-)

These are nice hey!

The Rolf Prima wheels also look value for money.

Looking for a decent, light, non aero road wheelset in the R5000 - R7000 price bracket ... any suggestions? Any dealer recommendations?

A hand built set based around Mavic Open Pro 32H and Shimano ultegra or Campagnolo Chorus hubs. Ask Johan Bornman very nicely to build them for you

Yes, but what is the weight limit?

I have had a set of the Novatec sprints now for 2 years, done about 4000km on them, spokes are easily replaced (I got hit by a car and snapped a spoke). Really impressed with the service from the guys at evo bikes.

One of my best purchases, hence the praise for them. I was 97kg when started riding them and now am 78kg, there was no issue when I was heavier.

I'm also quite suprised that Easton hasn't gotten a mention yet.

Or how about some American Classic 420.?

The Darkhorse 38mm look like a good option too.

Of course, that puts you in the semi-aero class as opposed to non-aero as you requested.

I love my AC 420. Light and stiff enough for 90kg frame.

My wife rides the EA 90, if you can get a set at a good price they are great wheels.

The Easton R4 hub is too much trouble. The bearing preload adjuster works loose once the grease starts flowing from the bearing.

The rims are tough though

Bullet proof rim.

I run 28 hole Open Pro's on very old Coda hubs, wheels around 12 years old.

Love them

But if I were to spend 5 to 7k on wheels I would buy Easton EA70's. Great value for money and Strong.
