Hey All,

David Hogan & Ryan Frerich's are attempting to get the Gauteng DH race scene happening again. The 1st race is set to take place on Sunday 28 July. It is a one day event and the track is very Enduro/AM Bike friendly. All major obstacles have B or C line options so you can race as hard as you feel comfortable

The schedule at this stage is to have practice from 08h00 - 11h30. Racing from 12h30'ish.

2 race run format with the best run counting.

There will be various classes, including a Sports class and an enduro class (AFAIK).

Where: Helderkruin DH track (Parking is on Graphite Road, Roodepoort)

When: Sunday 28 July 2013

Cost: R150 per rider

The race is currently self supported so if any one feels the urge to get involved please feel free to contact David (08 four seven 5 six 5 0 four 7).

The aim is to get a series going and this will be the decider to see if it will be sustainable, so get involved!

*EDIT to add.

More info regarding the event can be found here:

Good to see, hopefully this breaks the apathy in getting events together. Especially now that theres also the Thaba course.

Agreed DD. However, also keep in mind that to date (apart from Thaba) DH riders don't get a heap of help from the general MTB community. We don't have races set up for us or tracks built (imagine the moaning if you asked the XC boys to come and build & maintain their own trails). That said we understand that they have numbers on their side. Everything is done by the riders often at their own cost... So I feel the term 'apathy' is a bit harsh.

There is a tentative race calendar planned, but this is by no way set cast in stone (and is very much subject to how well the 1st event plays out).

Race #1 - 28 July - Helderkruin

Race #2 - 11 August - Thaba

Race #3 - 8 September - 139

Race #4 - 22 September - Thaba

Awesome!

Would like to spectate at first

You'll have way more fun riding your bike.

The track is open to all, so you can check it out this weekend. I'm pretty sure there will be guys practicing.

The vid below is the track that will be used, only the surroundings will be a lot browner. As I said in my earlier post, there will be easier options around all the major obstacles.

Apathy isn't harsh at all, why else is there no provincial series?

Keep in mind that many of the volunteers (70 odd) at the recent national were xc/fun rider types. Basically, they're all mountain bikers.

It's been the same with XCO, a lot of apathy in terms of events. But the support over the series has been encouraging, as has been the support at the Thaba DHI.

If I'm in town, I'll happily help out with some marshaling or something similar.
