Is jy nou dig of iets ?

Goose says push muscles are king.

maybe for an epic10km spruit outing.....I heard the race for the vida cup is quite hard on the body.

I am thinking more in the lines of Groenkloof with baggy shorts and a 3 liter Camelback.

Of course the push stroke has more power, as Goose so eloquently pointed out.

The push stroke also makes use of the bigger muscle groups, the ones that tire quicker.

Now wonder so many back markers roll and scream in agony with cramps.

Ya I agree completely that the push stroke is were almost all the power comes from, never disagreed with that. All I was trying to say is that having a pull stroke also adds some power even though it is a very small amount.

You are clearly way above my capability in logic and riding.

But train the pulling muscles more the the push, and they will tire less.

Good leg efficiency is a combination of the two.

That is pretty much why clipless pedals and toe straps were invented, it was never really for bunny hopping.

And clearly you don't listen (or read) properly. I never said a combo of pushing and pulling isn't efficient, I'm merely questioning your statement that your quadriceps will tire quicker than your ham strings because they are a bigger muscle.

Train your hamies as much as you want, they will never have the power of your quads, and if you had to use one or the other exclusively for pedaling, your hamies will always tire first...

No, I don't think you are , not after this.

Bigger muscle groups tire quicker than smaller muscle groups.

And if you are pulling with the hamstrings only, you might as well sell your calves for Chappies money.

That's a very broad statement!

 

Assuming the smaller muscle group has to do the same amount of work as the big muscle group (as per my previous example) I'm pretty sure the smaller muscle will tire first.

 

Anyway, whatever, I'm done arguing with you, you seem to be missing the point anyway...

It's not a broad statement, it's a fact, go do some research, take few sips from the Camelback and come back when you know whats potting.

If you can't assist the bigger muscle with the smaller muscle, they will tire quicker.

We are talking about low impact repetition here, which is what cycling is.

Explosive power ,such as weight training, different ball game.
