madmarc Posted July 29, 2013 Share So I want to buy a new saddle, don't know where to start, my problem is they not cheap and won't be cool to buy one and then not be happy with it. Any pointers, what must I look for etc etc. its for MTB, for full marathons and stage races

Selous Scout (aka LegTrap) Posted July 29, 2013 Share I would seriously consider a Fizik Gobi..... everyone I know that has one, loves it.
Helpmytrap Posted July 29, 2013 Share Spez You should be able to get a test saddle. M L
V12man Posted July 29, 2013 Share Look for the Selle Italia labels... And once you find the right one, buy at least 2. Specialised dealers can measure the width of your sit bones. Currently I like the SLR XC Flow - on my second one. Jaco-fiets
V12man Posted July 29, 2013 Share I would seriously consider a Fizik Gobi..... everyone I know that has one, loves it. I tried one for a couple of months - gave it back.. each to their own, but that saddle does NOT work for me. GLuvsMtb and Skylark

Hector Posted July 29, 2013 Share Make sure you go to a Bike shop that can measure your *rse. There is no point in buying an expensive saddle that is the wrong size. Most good bike shops should have the measuring seat you sit on to see how wide the saddle must be. It takes a few seconds. I did this a few years ago and have never had a sore backside again. M L Posted July 29, 2013 Share Any reputable lbs will let you try out a saddle for 2-3 weeks. WTB's are cheap and have a very good rep, spez has their fan base but I am falling very hard for the henge (avatar is a couch, henge is a chair, phenom is brick). Don't know if you can test fizik or selle saddles but not a fan of either. Start with a sit bone measurement, then find the problem areas (crotch or sit bones), then get a saddle according to your issue.

madmarc Posted July 29, 2013 Share What saddle have you been using ? Erm dunno it was a standard Bontragger saddle (white) that came with my Trek superfly100 when I bought it. I suspect that it is too narrow by the type of pain i'm getting on long rides
Pietervdw Posted July 29, 2013 Share +1 on getting a test saddle, use it extensively to make sure its right/ wrong for you

I suspect that it is too narrow by the type of pain i'm getting on long rides Thats the Bontrager Evoke 2 with chromoly rails. I've got the same bike. I bought a spez phenom on my previous bike after I had myself measured, and I haven't ridden with anything else since. Ive still got the brand new bontrager one somewhere in my garage. Get yourself measured and go from there. You should be able to get a spez test saddle. It takes a while getting used to the spez saddle but once your backside has gotten used to it, you won't look back.
