Hello All,

I am currently looking for a good Entry Level MTB bikes under R3000.

My main purpose of riding is time to time recreational tour and thats all.

I am looking someone reliable and good budget MTB in around Port Elizabeth.

There are some good offers at Sportsman warehouse for Avalanche ATX-250 going for R2499.

Not sure about this bike performance and service from warehouse.

Any comments on Makro offers?

Please help me out.

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers!!

Stay away from Makro for buying bikes. Rather spend the money at Sportsman's. Avalanche is fine for recreational riding.

I would then rather buy a used bike on "The Hub" from some-one in your area.

This idea is a good one ..

rather find a better 2nd hand bike that wont let you down on a ride.

Sportmans and makro bikes are not meant for long term riding in my opinion , seen to many components fail too many times on too many rides. youll end up spending the same amount as the bike cost just on maintenance .

Sportmans Warehouse are expensive and their staff have little cycling knowledge. Go to a proper bike shop. Cyclopro were selling Axis 29ers for R4 750. Much better than the Avalanche. They will also give you good advice and will make sure you are set up correctly.

save up and buy a better bike, this is a drug, you'll end up forking out allot when the bug bytes you, start replacing parts, repairing wheels etc and will end up spending more on the bike than what you would have if you had waited a little longer,

I have my little Avalanche Bike, and I've had lots of fun on her - but I do wish I had put in a little bit more money and gone for one level up - with suspension at least - then I wouldn't be looking to buy another bike 6 months in.

Totally agree with Mr.E - it's addictive... you'll want better, more, shinier very soon.

Just bought 2 Titan Ryde 29r's with V brakes for a mate that wants to get into cycling from Cycle Lab @ under R3100 each. I think it's a good buy.

Bought my friend's 2008 Mongoose Amasa Comp Pro 26". Manitou air fork, elixer 5 disk brakes, x-7 shifting, Sun rims, tubeless converted with WTB Wolverine on the back and Spez Purgatory up front. Other components are Ritchey comp.

It's a b-day present for my wife's youngest brother.

Price? R1500. Winning!!!

I'd up the budget a little, or go second hand. After a few rides you'd want to kick yourself for not spending a little more
