Either I expressed myself incorrectly or you misread... I did not mean that motor manufacturers offer a life time warrantee; i meant years ago they didn't transfer warrantees or motorplans to 2nd owners. Then they changes this principle of warrantee sitting with the owner to the warrentee sitting with the vehicle. So, if you sell your new vehicle after 1 year the 2nd owner still get the benefit of the remaining warrantee (5years, 3 years or whatever the warrantee period)!

Have you had a chat to them about replacing the frame at cost?

I bought a Kona a few years back, it was too small so sold the frame to my mate. Anyway the seat/toptube weld cracked just after 5 years of purchasing the bike. So second owner contacted Kona and told them the story, they offered him a brand new frame at (I stand corrected) 50 percent of dealer cost. The new frame came with a lifetime warranty for him!

Thanks for all the input guys - I appreciate it a lot!

Clearly the warranty topic is indeed an interesting one and we all have our own views about it, but it is what it is :)

My original intention was to determine if this problem of mine is fixable or not? Advisable to fix or not? How to fix? :)

The eggspurt consensus here is Yes, It Can be fixed, but I think it's not a DIY job, you will need to talk to some carbon repair specialists and get the frame to them. That bunch in Benoni I ref'ed look like a good start, the founder comes from an aeronautical engineering background.

After careful consideration to repair the frame or not, I've decided not to repair it, and take Omnico up on their offer to buy a new Scalpel frame at cost price (like ACM said); I received it yesterday. At least now I have 1st owner warranty on the new frame.

I'll post my old frame up for sale, maybe someone on here is keen to make it a "project" and fix the frame and I recover a couple of bucks.

Maybe the first owner will buy it on thehubsa and then put in a warrantee claim at omnico... Technically he is the first owner :-) hehehe

Nice of them tho technically if this is a manufacturing defect and th frame replaced irrespective of whether first owner or not with a limited time from sale.
