KENDA thank for your support. I'm not worry if they making fun of me as I'm just a human like all of you :) and I'm planning to accomplish my goal for Deaflympic 2017 for MTB or cycling :) (hint) as my Deaf friend Terence Parkin (Silver medalist 2000 Olympic 200m breastsroke) as he is currently in Sofia, Bulgaria for Deaflympic for MTB and cyclist.

That is a brilliant goal to have. If I had to offer you my real advice. For now focus on saddle time to build up a decent base. It doesn't matter how far you ride in distance, whats more important is the time in the saddle! Start off with 45min rides, when that becomes comfortable move up to 75min rides, when that becomes comfortable move up to 120min rides ect ect.... Once you have a base that can allow you to do 3 hours in the saddle without feeling like you just died, it's time to get yourself a coach.

Remember the idea with base training is spending time in the saddle, you don't have to push yourself too hard. Try invest in a decent bike setup as well....

Not to be "funny", but my 9 year old does the 12km MTB races at a leasurley pace. Her friend also 9 does them as well and normaly finished in the top 3 in the 8 - 12 category.

I guess what I am saying is be realistic about turning pro. It may be natural skill agmented by training, which you may or may not have.

If you battle on the hills, under attacked or technical sections you may be in some trouble turning pro. Some of the riders have been cycling for 9 years before their 18th birthdays (just saying ...)

I also think this guy is for real and what's more, I think he deserves an apology.

What the hell is up with hubbers flaming newbies until proven to be "real", so to speak. That's down right arrogant and makes for a super negative perception of cyclists.

I completely agree with the fact that he needs an apology.... The thing is, no one has to prove they real.... But, it's Friday and according to the HUB culture, Friday is fight day :thumbup:Nobody as of yet posted our fight thread so most of us assumed this was it.... So, lets move on. KZNSPYDER seems to understand where the confusion came in.... So lets assist him as best we can to make up for the total d!ckhead attitudes we had in the first few posts.

Help this guy out, keep it real

Dude, the thing you must remember is most deaf people struggle with balance issues as well.... So they will overall be slower compared to other people. Give the guy a break, everyone starts at the bottom.

I think if you want to try go for the deaf olympics it's an achievable goal if you dedicate yourself towards it. Even if you only make it half way there, you'd have had more success than most of the guys who posted in this thread.

zaslinger, English is my main language. Actually my grammar is not excellent. And just let you guy know I'm Deaf and sign language user.

If that really is the case, then you should have mentioned it upfront. If you're in IT then you should know enough about how the interwebs works.

Speculation was justified, any noob who says he wants to be a pro is going to raise eyebrows.

Best wishes on reaching your goals. With cycling the most important part of training is to be consistent. Training a minimum of 4 times a week is essential if you want to improve to the point where you are competitive. Do your best to take as much pressure off at first and see if you can build a solid base of training to keep improving on.

I wish you every success! I understand the extra obstacles you face attempting to do this as a deaf athlete! Give it horns!

30 :)

A few questions for you.

And you did ask on an open forum, so let's be open.

Have you achieved any sporting merits in your life ?(not school level)

What is your height and weight ?

When do you anticipate to turn PRO ?

Which discipline do you want to pursue ?

Yah, and that's what we are here for...to interrogate and speculate and be suspicious. After all it's way too much effort to take the time to jot down one line of advice on the thing we call our passion, for someone "new" (real or not, who cares...).

@spiderkzn dude, talk the way you feel comfortable talking, keep on training and work hard and most of all, enjoy the ride!

You have a dream and that's all you need buddy!

Have you achieved any sporting merits in your life ?(not school level) Did achieved Midmar Mile 4 time. Did done MTB few years back but dropped due to hectic at work and well sort of partying :) and now I've decide to return and focus seriously.

What is your height and weight ? 179cm and 79kg

When do you anticipate to turn PRO ? Last year when I watched Burry Stander (RIP :( ) racing during 2012 Olympic and he inspire me. And well there have Cycling club in JHB which several Deaf as many of them are my friend and KZN dont have so that why I'm cycling and aim to be professional and I want to motivate Deaf KZN to keen for cyclist :)

Which discipline do you want to pursue ? To believe in myself and aim for Pro for next few years. I've dream of doing Sani2C, Berg&Bush and even I wanted to do Joberg2C & Cape Epic

Few things.

That profile pic must be old, the height and weight don't match.

When do you anticipate to turn pro, in a year, six months, 5 years ?

Epic, J2C is not just fro Pro's.

How long do you want to be pro ?

At 30 you have very little time left.
