damm, thats gonna hurt the wallet.

I run RR and LF, same as my shifters.

and I always brake using both sides, just fever the pressure.

This is the worst case I have ever seen of "How to Fark up your caliper, piston and rotor ... not even to mention brake pad!" When you use the piston to brake, not the brake pad!

What worries me ... this would have made a moerse noise for a moerse long time and this person didnt notice!

But then again, Shimano's doesnt make a noise, only Avids does! (evil laughter)

On my Merida and the wife's Giant and Specialized, the rear brakes are on the right side. This made sense to me as I am used to mostly using the right hand for brakes like on the motorbike.

Bought myself a bike last week but the brakes are swapped around, so rear is on the left.

Googled it and apparently it differs between countries being a function of which side of the road the ride ....

Ja, if u used to riding a motorbike, keep front brake right and rear brake left! You could get confused some time and wipe out on one of the 2 bikes and it could get very nasty!

Not if you've owned a motorbike, If that was the case you wouldn't make it out of your driveway.

Have owned a couple and had some to play with growing up on a farm.

Still the most stopping comes from the front ... but yea on the motorbike you use the front way more than the rear. And you can control your speed with the throttle much more on the motorbike than on a bike that doesnt have one.

Seems like I need to explain the crusing speed I am talking about. I am not talking about crusing speed on flat roads. I am talking about crusing speed on technical, downhill, rocky stuff or speed in corners.

When going down the rough stuff, I will use the front and back to slow me down quickly if needed but then continue to use the rear much more than the front to control crusing speed, specially when my face is already hanging over the front wheel.

Or when entering a corner, use both brakes to slow down quickly but once you are in the corner already turning and reliase you are still carrying to much speed, are you going to pull the front?

I'm going for the rear brake, closing my eyes and hoping my drift move works! ;)

And if you were wondering SLiiick, this was not on the front ;)

Holy mother of rear brakes!!

FTR you were the one who said that "everyone" uses their rear more. Now it's 90% who frequent your shop. ;)

Using the front brake properly is one of the first skills I teach and most guys I ride with use their front brake to do the majority of the stopping. And most of those bike never see the inside of a bike shop so not even in your 10%. But I get what you are saying: most riders haven't got a clue.

Failed to notice the rider to the left front of me from cutting across my forward bow on a wide sand road.

aaaah! I see... I thought I remembered hearing something about having to stop suddenly for rider ahead and your front wheel washed out on the loose.

WTF were you sailing on a sand road?

I need my clever hand on my rear brake for all the wheelies I do.

Plus I Steve Peat my bike around all the corners and only really need one brake.

Oh wait, I am not talking about me. That was me wishing I could ride like a certain Mr. Christmas Tree.

for about a week or so, Mr Christmas Tree was the not-so-proud owner of a front brake. His new found love for stoppies resulted in some mother earth intimacy. The brake then had to be sold, like the wild mustang that couldn't be broken.

Maybe Mr Christmas Tree should have gonewith some riding lessons with Sliiick so he could learn to gently caress her (the front brake lever) and not grab at her like an over excited schoolboy.
