Pressfit bb must be removed and cleaned and installed with no grease. Completely dry..Shimano hollotech crank arm: install through bb, then apply copper grease on the 2 bolts and area where crank arm slides on. Tighten with torque wrench..problem solved..i hope..

Nobody mentioned the crank brand .My XT crank made the same noises .I put it on another bike and low and behold the noise followed the crank to the other bike .Nothing wrong with the crank .I just got used to it .The click gets worst when the power increases

I know this post is as old but just want to add my 2c as well! :w00t:

My trans was having a creek and noise only on the left pedal going down and only when I sit and pedal. I also checked every single thing that I can think off that include the QR, seat post act. It only creek when a I sit and peddle...stand and peddle is quite as can be!

Long story short, I decided today is the day i will look for that noise as even my wife started to complain about the irritating noise she have to listen to.....and that is not even her bike!

Had a chat to friend and it he asked me about how many kilometers i did with the bike. Well I know it is just under 7000 and he then asked me if i ever replaced the suspension bearings wish i never did...... :whistling:

I took them out today and holy macaroni.....that bearings is shot! What even surprised me more....10 bearings just on the suspension!!!!!

Well I can see that this is exactly where my bike noise come from and will go search for bearings tomorrow!

So this morning i phoned a bike shop to give me a price on the suspension bearings that you can apparently buy in a kit form. The bike shop (not going to give name as this is not a name and shame thing) informed that he will phone me back with the prices.

After about three hours i drove to a local bearing shop and gave him samples of the three types of bearings that i need. Altogether 10 bearings came to R195.95. Just after I paid the bike shop eventually decided that he will phone me back with the price. Just the bearings without ANY fitting or labor.......R1995!!!!!!! An extra charge of R250 labor for the top bearings and another R250 for the bottom bearings.

Luckily I can help myself in the garage and replacing bearings is not exactly rocket science but really that prices cant be right??? Is the bike bearings something different as other bearings or maybe different material was used with manufacturing or better grease....i don't know, but sure as hell i rather buy cheap bearings and replace them every two to three years!

Try and buy japenese bearings..the dealers will ask crazy prices. We use to fly remote control helicopters and had the same problem. Very few people know this, but you can actually re-grease these bearings without opening them or damaging them.

Not all bearings are the same (cannot really compare SKF, Timken, etc to Chinese imports) Then you also have MAX (full-house) bearings which incidentally should actually be used in linkages and come at a price.

2k is more than a bit steep, but use those 5 bob bearings from Bearing Man at your own risk. They're not full complement, and the cheap and cheerful ones are made from the lowest grade of Indian steel you can find. They'll last about a month or one river crossing.

Buy cheap, buy twice.

However, that kit you were quoted on probably also comes complete with all the pivot bolts as well. Just the bearings, if you get Enduro Max, should cost around R 650 for the set (assuming we're still talking about an Anthem). Alternatively, tell your LBS to insert the full bolt kit into an uncomfortable orifice and supply only the bearing kit, which Dragons also sells separately.

Sorry, haven't read the whole thread so not sure if this has been covered. What BB do you have? If shim hollotech then remove it, give the thread on the BB AND the frame a good cleaning. Apply copper grease to BB thread and fit back on the bike. If you looking for bearings then give Rush Sports in PMB a call, they stock most parts or will get it for you.

I've heard about that re-greasing tool, the one I was told about forces the grease in past the lip of the seals without opening them, where can you get them?

Quite an amazing little tool..it forces the clean grease in and all the dirt and old grease out. You can really extend the life of your bearings and make them run smoother.
